Sky News addicts out in force again here. Working class fellas with unbridled enthusiasm for naked power with critical thinking processes on "off".
BB and Jaxie with the usual hysterical rants lifted straight from News Ltd. Talk of an impending alliance between Islam and Marxism? An atheistic ideology teaming up with theocracies? Unlikely. This is nong talk.
BB's curious post at #31 resurrecting the gamut of propaganda nonsense that is seldom heard lately - the beheading of babies, Hamas "attacking" Israel when what actually occured was akin to a prison breakout. What's more there has been no official inquiry into what happened on October 7th. What we do know is that there was no raping, no beheading, fortified Israeli garrisons were attacked, the IDF came in late all guns blazing with not much to do other than to obliterate everyone on the roads in line with the Hannibal directive. The UN has declared that an occupied people has the right to resist occupation by force if necessary.
Jax's blithe observation that the UN is irrelevent these days because of corruption? Straight off the top of his head, no evidence or examples. The truth is that it has been knobbled by the US for several decades since the Global South became more active and confident and stopped letting the US have its own way, replaced by the US's Rules Based Order - American rules only please. The only peace institution that the world has or had is now irrelevant because the US has made it so.
What? We're happy that the UN is now irrelevant and we're locked into a bellicose US foreign policy? Because that's what we are, a vassal state, well and truly locked in.
All of the general Sky nonsense on display is so frustrating. Iran is a cruel dictatorship, the people are yearning for freedom, the women are treated abysmally - is that Iran or our mates Saudi Arabia and all the other "cruel" dictatorships that are never mentioned by our msm so BB et al never hear about them. In their addled world, the US continues to be the White Knight, sometimes mistaken but always well meaning. They hold to this despite the evidence of their own eyes.
In the Iranian city of Istfahan, there is a World Heritage listed public Square the size of a dozen football fields. On the news of the Ayotollah's death, that square filled with hundreds of thousands who braved possible attacks to protest the assassination. They were part of millions across the country. That is the true picture- a westernised minority understandably dislike a Theocracy that is reactionary but the great majority support the regime. It's unfortunate for those of us who are outraged (along with Sky) at what the Iranian majority believe but that is the reality. Iranian "progressives" are a relatively small and divided minority, there's no way that it will be able to trigger revolt, it's a US wet dream.
America has wasted trillions on countless wars and their country is falling apart.
China on the other hand doesn't go to war these days and their country is state of the art.
No flies on China!
Absolutely with you on that. China is the model to follow but our power elite, though just minnows in a global sense, will never break its allegiance to the USA nor to the corrupt Corporate Capitalism that Australia embraces. Whatever a progressive government might propose as possible reform would be imediately attacked by our privately owned mass media, with a constitutional coup closely following. That is why, in the present, Albo seems so reluctent to be in any way bold, he has the Whitlam lesson.We are a client state of the US like the rest of the West and we are stuck with it.
Western propaganda has been relentless since 1917. We've been fed nothing else in global affairs to the point that arrant propaganda was/is so intense and ubiquitous that it has become accepted by ordinary folk as gospel when in reality, it's been lies forever.
Australia is not firing missiles into Israel, nor is Turkey.
Iran fires missiles into Israel, as do its proxies Hezbollah, Hamas and Houthis.
Iran has lost the right to exist in its current form.
Trump is no freak, he's doing what's best for U.S.and its allies.
What do UK and Spain think they're doing denying the U.S. use of their air bases. They're not helping the good guys, they should be.
Sure I'm wasting my time here but Iran fires rockets into neighbours that host US bases. It's a warning, even an exposure, that these are puppets of the US and will be part of the coming offensive, the idea being to nobble operations and it looks like they've done good job - the entire military communications network blasted.
Israel began the rocket offensive against Iran et al. Maybe Israel has lost its right to exist, stealing another nation and commiting what is close to a genocide in its determination to dominate the region.
The US is not a one man operation. Doesn't matter if Trump is mad or not, he's the front man having half the TV addled population in thrall to his freak behaviour. He's the enabler, possibly the only one, like a Hitler. Behind Trump is a legion of neo Cons that has pushed for the US to use its mighty power, naked and unrestrained, for a generation.
That last sentence is quite delusional in its naivety but also quite normal for someone with a narrow set of algorithms.
Mind you it's interesting reading the opinions of Boomers. As a group poorly educated and even often rejecting education, parochial, gormless, gullible and scared of change, grimly clinging to an Australia that no longer exists. An embarrassment really but you're our embarrassment.
And why is it our brave humanitarians are very selective about who they call out for causing deaths?
It seems almost exclusively only if they can finger Israel or President Trump..
No peep after Oct 7 horrors and subsequent long term torture of hostages;
Crickets for all African atrocities and deaths occuring regularly;
Stony silence after Iran murdered 10s of thousands of their own people.
Puzzling....now if they genuinely cared about ALL human lives wouldn't they....?
Jack, on one point we completely agree: the Iranian regime and Hamas are among the worst actors out there. No argument from me.
Where we differ is how you deal with them.
The U.S. completely wiped out Saddam’s regime in Iraq, stayed for years to build a government that was supposed to stabilise the region — and what did we end up with? ISIS. Even after ISIS was “defeated” in 2017, Iraq is still full of militant groups and terror cells. A monumental failure — and little consolation for the families of the 5,000 American soldiers who died there.
Then there’s Afghanistan. The Taliban sheltered Al-Qaeda, which planned September 11 attacks. The U.S. spent 20 years bombing the hell out of Afghanistan — and who ended up back in charge? The Taliban. That war cost 2,400 American soldiers’ lives, and today the same group still runs the country.
Now look at Gaza.
Before October 2023, Hamas had roughly 20,000–30,000 fighters. Gaza has been flattened — yet Israeli intelligence estimates around 20,000 fighters still remain today, with recruitment increasing.
So what exactly has been achieved besides 70,000+ Gazans dead and around 900 Israeli soldiers killed? Are Israelis actually safer now than they were before October 7 attacks? Why has anti semitism exploded around the world?
The biggest mistake came right at the start. Israel had multiple intelligence signals (Egyptian warnings, a detailed Hamas plan, training activity, and analyst concerns), but they were largely dismissed or underestimated by the government. As such the response by the IDF on Oct 7 was abysmal- unbelievably large military reinforcements did not arrive for several hours.
Benjamin Netanyahu should have taken responsibility and resigned. Instead he decided his legacy would be to create a "better & safer" Middle East for Israel by bombing Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iran — even a strike in Doha (which upset DJT because he recently received a 400 million dollar present from Qatar). - The nerve of Netanyahu to blame Albo for letting the Jewish community down re the Bondi massacre. 1200 people were massacred on October 7th- under his watch. and due to the avoidable failings of his government. It was his responsibility to keep his citizens safe and he failed.
Incidentally for those who want to know what the entire Arab world is watching on A Jeezera (and i know some here some dont care-they prefer Sky News Aust or FOX News- thats ok) its the IDF continuing to annex the illegally occupied West Bank. They are seeing people being abused , forced to leave their homes and in some cases even killed, despite the peace deal.
