Golden Circle 450g canned sliced beetroot $6 kg "Made in NZ from local and imported ingredients" .....Edgells sliced beetroot 825g "99% Australian Ingredients" $4.61kg. Sure its a bigger can-but it's still cheaper and its local.
I fully agree with you regarding the tinned items as well. I never buy the cheaper pineapple from overseas if I am making pizza for example and I just finished a tin of Edgells beetroot myself. We never had frozen veges growing up as my grandparents were immigrants like Nick Politis, they also settled in Qld and also started a fruit and vege wholesale/retail. I think perhaps the occasional bag of frozen peas. Some are from the UK as well as Belgium like you mentioned in your other post. I also avoid any of the gluten free bakery products which are frozen and then shipped in from overseas. I don't eat much of them anymore anyway and we have perfectly good bakeries right here in the east. I only have it as a special treat like birthdays etc.

I bought it from the official website. There are 3 sizes and I bought the biggest size. Peters of Kensington stock it locally and so does Victoria's Basement. Make sure it's the official Fluicer name and not the rip off version..

LOL I mentioned pineapple without reading your post..we all have similar tendencies. Mum & Dad used to pickle turnips and other veges like cauliflower. I always steam fresh beetroot when it's on special in winter. So good with other veges and hearty too.

Ok so now I'm on the Sanctum mailing list and they sent me a $10 voucher plus a discount on a skincare set tailored to my type. I'll treat myself over the holidays. I'd rather spend my money in places like that rather than spending it overseas. Thanks gentlemen for the recommendation.

Last year everyone got Bondi Wash products from me but I'm just biased as they are around the corner from me and I need to plug our eastern suburbs businesses. Instead of carrying gifts on the plane to Melbourne, I ordered their best seller box online and got free shipping and just let the girls in my family pick what they wanted.

There ain't no Redfern Wash now is there?...just sayin'....

Was it last year or the year before that there was a glut of pineapples because of the ideal growing conditions in Queensland, that would have been the perfect time for Golden Circle to take the surplus and ramp up their canning process as stuff in tins will last almost forever.

That was a couple of years back due to all the rain. The farmers couldn't keep up. Also we used to sell bananas from Coffs Harbour in our shop yet we always got called banana benders up there..LOL..Just got my Tassal barramundi and salmon delivered.

The thing i look closely at now is when at the deli counter at Coles or Woolies and buying ham for sandwiches or whatever, the variant in Australian content, some sit around 91-94 % Australian content then others are 19- 29 %

Also not such made Australian made, i like having a tin or two of Leggo's tomato puree in the cupboard and yes it is an Australian company and uses Australian tomatoes but the label for it and their brand crushed tomatoes are almost identical and my local Coles always seems to put the crushed tomatoes in where the puree should be, the crushed and tinned tomatoes are in a different section of the shop and the puree is where the pasta sauces are kept, for the last ten weeks the Leggos crushed tomatoes are sitting where the puree should be, you can see on the shelf behind the cans of puree but in front are the crushed tomatoes, i have pointed it out to staff twice now and they go oh yes we will fix it but nothing ever happens, i have felt like taking out the crushed tomatoes and putting the puree in front but it's not my place to do that so i just buy the puree in Woolworths now until my local Coles corrects the situation.

Still reckon the best bananas come from Yarrahappini which is south of Coffs Harbour, its the furthest south they commercially grow them. Used to get a bucket of seconds and unsold ones from the markets at a little road side stall when we stayed at Grassy Head, the stall used to only open on Monday or if any left Tuesday, they were the sweetest most moorish bananas i have ever had.

You are far better restrained than I am..LOL..when I was on 5th Avenue in New York on a Friday afternoon with my niece, she'd gone to the ladies rooms and I was tidying up some messy stock in H & M..

I always get the Italian tomatoes in cans and use them all winter. Whatever is on special at Harris Farm does me, along with whatever chickpeas and white beans they have. You got me using the white beans.. . Reminds me, season 3 of Silvia's Italian Masterclass is on 10Play..I think the 10 episodes lead up to Christmas like last year.

I do my best but am not perfect.
                      Pasta - San Remo
                      Rice - Sunrice
Cereal - Uncle Toby’s oats or Plus, Carman’s
                      Bega cheese or woollies brand
Birds Eye frozen corn and peas - mum used to work at the Simplot factory in regional NSW. She was taught how to sort the veggies into the different gradings from the cheaper essentials to full brand name.
                      Bulla, Dairy farmers, masterfoods
Local bakery or Helga or tip top

I do prefer the Italian tinned tomatoes like multi and analisa.
I could do better with olive oil. Shampoo too but I’m fussy with sensitive skin.

The cost of living is out of control so this would dictate just how most consumers spend their money.

This country has changed for worse imo and I reckon things will continue to get harder.

My good mate who has worked hard all his life and payed his taxes waited 15 hours to see a Dr at Sutherland hospital last weekend. He was having trouble breathing and was diagnosed with RSV.

it's called taking pride in what you do and there is nothing wrong with that.

Here is a handy website. It's a bit outdated but does have good day to day supermarket brand information:

                            https://buyausmag.com.au/21-australi...rted-products/

Interesting list even though as you say some of it is outdated.

I used to use Tablelands spread but about 6 months ago it disappeared of Woolworths shelves, their website just say out of stock, Coles website still list as having it but i have never seen it in a shop ever.

Rosella sauce is the only tomato sauce i buy, other brands are not allowed in the house when it comes to tomato sauce, just has that great tomato taste, probably because it is full of salt, the only other time other tomato sauce comes into the house is when i keep the sauce sachets that you get with pies and takeaway foods, i find they come in handy for picnics or when we go away for a few days, i found i got quite a few from the SCG/ SFS when getting a pie even when you tell them you don't want sauce they still put them in the bag.

The Bundaberg soft drink range is yummy even though i don't drink a lot of soft drink, love their guava and blood orange flavours .

Although i rarely bought Coon cheese i can never even look at it now since it was forced to change its name to Cheers.

I've been getting lesser known brands of butter from Harris Farm plus I like the Great Ocean Road one when it's on special. One would hope it's Australian made. . My Edgell chick peas in the cupboard are Australian. I told my brother in law about the Black & Gold cheese from IGA as he and my sister go to their local one sometimes. It tastes better than Bega and it's good for toasted sandwiches to take to work. My local IGA has a lot of Australian made products under the Community Co label.
I'm just waiting on 2 deliveries this afternoon then I'm going up to Westfield as my new boss told me about TK Maxx. One of the guys I worked with at Gowings years ago when we were in our 20's is now very high up in their Victorian office. Apparently they do have some Australian made products like soap and skincare so I'll take a look. They have Martha Stewart homewares..my queen..! But if I go into that section, I may never come out..I'm a sucker for anything home related. Bed, Bath & Table have limoncello scented drawer liners & sachets but they are made in China..
