  • contd from the article:

[i]"He was still confident two weeks ago that Suaalii was going to stay with his club.
They have already invested well in excess of $1 million in him and would have looked after him for the remainder of his playing career, and beyond.

Politis thought the level of care they have shown Suaalii and his family was going to count for something. Politis and his board took a personal interest in the charity the Suaalii family runs, Reach Out NSW. Yet, during the negotiations the Roosters felt they were not made aware of how far things had progressed with Suaalii's impending switch to rugby."

Minns Labor is now unable to form majority govt.
Minns Labor would be well advised not to go messing around with NRL clubs and contracts in place.

Souths are pretty cocksure our sacred turf will soon be their dunghill too...what a tragedy that would be.

So much for tribalism if we live together.

        • There is no guarantee any player will re-sign with their current club when able to negotiate a new contract - Clubs themselves move players on when still under contract

Suaalii signed a 2 year contract with 2 player options for 2023 and 2024 which he has taken up - There is nothing in his contract which say's he has to re-sign with the Roosters.

It was best for both parties that this was sorted out early instead of it being dragged out for the rest of the season and up to and past November 1 2023 when he would able to field offers from and negotiate with other clubs.

Suaalii will be a more settled player having sorted out his short/mid term future and the Roosters can then plan for 2025 and beyond on what their squad will look like with more clarity and certainty.

I haven’t really been following it since I live in the ACT. All I know is DP is out and the ALP guy is in. So it’s a minority government hey? Still I’m worried that the vermin will now get what they want.

              • Given the Rabbitohs and the Bulldogs are the only major tenants at Sydney Olympic park I can’t imagine any sane government would be willing to let them out of their 10 yr lease agreement unless there was plans to redevelop or repurpose the Olympic Park stadium which Minns has already ruled out.

He wont want to pick a fight with the rooster's board. Some of the wealthiest, influential people in the state sit on that board so he wont want to piss them off

                  • Suaalii no mercenary

One thing that has been lost in the debate around Suaalii’s defection to rugby union is his loyalty to coach Trent Robinson and the Roosters.

At the time of his decision to take up an option in his favour to stay at the Roosters for 2024, he was well aware of how much money he was turning down.

Rugby Australia chairman Hamish McLennan told this column that they offered Suaalii a contract for next year.

Suaalii turned it down – all $1.6m of it – to honour his $750,000 option at the Roosters because of his loyalty to Robinson and the club.

                    smh

What a bad character Suuali has turned out to be. Nick must be fuming after lavishing his family and getting treated like dirt in return. I hope he goes yesterday as he’s not a true rooster never has been and is unworthy to wear the red, white and blue. We are not just about $$ or footy but about good sportsmanship. We don’t milk penalties because it’s against the spirit of the game. Suuali and his family milked Nick for whatever they could leading us on that he might stay full well knowing all along that we were just used to increase his value for a huge deal with RU. This entire episode is sickening.

You're falling for the lamestream media narrative.

Why on earth would Danny Wiedler be privy to Politis' feelings on this? Wiedler is a nothing person with a nothing life. His job, if you can call it that, is the same as the other treacherous leaches - to stir up division and controversy, with no respect for the facts.

The media are upset and scared we are doing so well. they're getting desperate. Now we see fake news to the effect that JWH is being treated horribly by us as we haven't included him in our cap plans for the next 10 years.

Have another look at Robbo's presser from last week, where he puts that pathetic has been Gould in his place and calls him out precisely for what he is.

We have big Joe for another 2 years and he showed on Thursday his commitment to us with the way he played. And he will get better and better for us, before making some big coin in Rugby before most likely returning to us al a Sonny Bill.

Well said. None of these clowns have any clue Trent Robinson said nothing but positive and respectful things when the decision was announced including “Joseph has been transparent the whole time”

I reckon most of these wankers put shit on the guy because they don't want him to come back to league because they know he will end up back with us at his peak.
