  • I would like to see the NRL put in a departure tax on players going to Union or AFL. The tax would be based on their status and be donated to all those players junior clubs.

Yes, I know, they wont pay up.
But the fee stays if they return.

Some big money coming off our books over the next 2- 3years. Suallii Keary JWH Toops and possibly Teddy if not the end of 2025 then 26. Target the likes of Haas and Koula with the emergence of Toia and Xavier Va and things will still be looking good.

        • Fair chance Jack Wighton may be his replacement

For sure but to work within the salary cap & lure a few big guns means you need injection of development players who initially take up a smaller slice of the pie. Our mob have the right formulas in place .

              • Yeh mate i would anticipate guys like Cassius Tia Ethan Roberts Zach Fittler DeLa Salle Va and Cooper Toy will have progressed to the Devt contract stage, maybe even one or 2 into the top 30 by then. On top of this we have close to 3 million leaving in top tier contracts, 4 mil a year later with Teddy and a further 400k in cap increase. We have more than enough to target talent like Haas and Koula with plenty leftover for upgrades etc.

Nah I think everyone knew it was going to play out this way from the beginning… young players don’t negotiate their contracts every year with get out clauses.

You’re right though… the boy and his family are mercenaries. But we knew what we were doing.

He is pretty good already but again you’re right… the hype is mostly due to his age. Has it all been worth it for us to develop him these last couple of years only to see him leave in 18 months? Well that will depend what he can deliver for us before he goes… time will tell

                        • If we don t win a premiership in the next two years it will seem like a big waste of time playing JS now.
if we win one it will be worth it, but hes not that good yet that he would be the difference.

we took a punt that he'd stay with us long term. that bet is still live as we might get him back later. but even if he doesn't come back it's hard to argue that it was a mistake to sign him - he was good last year and made the dally m team of the year and there's the expectation that he will be better this year and possibly a real gun next year, a potential match winner next year. everyone says he's professional and has his head screwed on so you'd figure he's a safe bet to perform well over the next two years

                            • Well, the Sydney Morning Herald has a very interesting article today...by Danny Weidler, respected journalist.
                              It's also on msn.com.

                              Titled
How the Roosters may have sabotaged their own bid to keep Suaalii.

It details how Uncle Nick is a 'good-hearted bloke' and arranged a meeting with Dr V'landys and then deregistered player manager Isaac Moses.

                              Quote from article:
"It was an act of goodwill from two of the heaviest hitters in the game."
"However, each of them would be entitled to question themselves after the events of the past fortnight regarding Suaalii."

"Politis is not happy with the way things panned out. He has not forgotten that meeting 18 months ago."

I saw that BB. A very interesting read. The other thing I saw in Weidler’s column was that the vermin’s Solly and the new NSW premier are allegedly great mates for over 25 years now. He was alluding to the fact that this may help them get their way back to our home ground. Better not!
