  • Thinking of Johnny Tobin

I hope nobody find this inappropriate but it was around this time last year that we heard the news that the poster known as Johnny Tobin had passed away. We were mostly adversaries on the forum but I have to admit I was rattled when I heard the news. I miss reading his posts. Actually I thought of him a lot throughout the season and no doubt other forum members who knew him in real life probably did even more. Anyway, I just thought I would start this thread and maybe others may like to add to it.

Nice of you to bring this up.

The first time I met Johnny I was about 12 years old. We were on the supporters bus on a Friday night from Bondi Junction to go and watch us play that night in Canberra. I remained friends with him since.

He was a great fan and extremely passionate. A very fun guy to be around with a great sense of humour.

I will never forget the time I spent with him and I think about him often.

      Showing your softer side mate.
I didn’t know Tobin but I know he was a good Easts man.

Life is short mate. You nailed it before when you pointed out what a small online community we are and we all love Easts.

There were a few over the many years who were vocal and known, some from talk back radio.
Clive Galea was always on back in the late 90s and early 2000s..passed away in 2007 I think.
Janelle also...pretty rough but I got to know her in the old chookpen at the SFS over the years.
Wonder what they would have thought of the Robo era?

I didn't know the man, but he was an East man through & through. That's good enough for me.

My thoughts are with his friends & family for the anniversary of his passing.

He was one of the guys I remember when the boards started back in the late 90s - initially as the Wall.

A real character on these forums over the years. So many barnies with other posters..so many side monikers. Very heavily involved with the club as a corporate sponsor.

Hope the boys can do it for him this year.

I think of JT when I use this forum.
He was very supportive of me, and I could tell he was genuine.
He died way too young and I miss his posts.

Often when I jump onto the Chookpen I think of JT. I really miss his posts and his sharp wit.

Very nice and generous man in person, I'm glad I am not the only one who misses JT.

I didn’t know him at all, but felt like I did through this forum, we shared some funny moments and interests on the site. Loved some of his controversial comments, and how he’d admit if he got it wrong, then move on.

felt like a huge part of this forum was lost with him.

I've met Clive's son - huge Rooster man so safe to say the family approves of the Robbo era.

JT was and is a legend. Sorely missed.

JT was one of the big personalities on this forum. He was always forthright with his opinions and didn’t mind making a bold statement. I loved his anti Souffs rants in particular and later the anti Latrell ones. He is sorely missed on here.
