I actually still like your DA suggestion, id even take JT as he looks like he can coach especially in attack, but I guarantee it would only take a few losses and they'd be ripped a new one by all the eggspurts here.

IMO changing the coach this early in the season is the easy way out, it's telling the players that as a club we won't dig in and fight we will simply give up, the soft option basically.

Besides the payout would be hefty, I gather Smiff knows the fickle nature of his game by now and would have clauses galore to cover his arse and his cashola.

Geez I rate Taka highly, he can become a bit of a Mateo for us creating a heap of opportunities... He just seems to know what to do to - footwork, positioning, dummying, change of angles, almost SBW-like - to create something for his outside players. He would seriously go ok as our 5/8 I reckon Mateo style.

I agree, i said he was Mateo like a year ago and i got laughed at. Also said he will become one of our best forwards, he needs to be in the team...
Tagive is a must compared to the wingers we have.. Seriously....

Killer has probably been Newtown's best player in their first four games. I'd have Tagive as my left winger though. Unfortunately, changing the outside backs probably won't do a lot. Anasta and Mini both any attacking opportunities that may arise as soon as they get the ball. We don't run set plays because our fullback can't ball play so there isn't enough players to execute a set play properly. If Mini is not to be dropped from fullback I'd like to see Cordner used in some set plays the way Tupou used to be (normally last pass to Mini). Smith needs to get the boys running some set plays to try. I understand that with Slater's speed as the final receiver the Storm's set plays work better than they would with someone slower but we don't even try to structure movements. No simple run arounds, no block plays. The closest thing we have is the switch play that Pearce puts on with Aubo and SKD. Three farkin players!!! The reason we don't score is because we don't prepare to score, not because we have shit players. Did you see how easy Taka created an overlap running acrossfield and using Mini as a decoy to pass out the back to Pearce. FFS 14 year olds are coached set plays but we're not.

this is how i feel. while im not an condemning of smith as others, ive said in the past that we need a structure like manly's, melbournes, brisbanes and st georges to fall back on when the razzle dazzle doesnt work but that is not smith's coaching style which is the problem. All the players even admit that smith wants them to play 2nd phase play and off the cuff. problem is that when your halves (particularly 6) lacks creativity and passes dont stick, you become predictable and lack the ability to score.

we can compensate for the lack of minis ball playing skills by featuring maubs/cordner on the right edge and anasta down the left. these 3 all have great ball skills and will allow mini to be used more exclusively as a runner looming up around these guys. the speed and spark of mortimer will also improve our attack.

FPN ive had it with. he is down on minutes and although effective in patches, thats quite frankly not good enough especially when fitting him in would cost taka, tagive or moga a spot - all of whom are far more impressive attacking options.

id like to think my team is pretty reasonble looking. ultimately mini and braith will be there and do have a place - they are just not being used correctly but i feel that as a left side backrower he will allow us to have more sweeping backline movements and also accomodate a bit more spark in mortimer. It also allows mitchell to come back in on the bench who i am a big fan of particularly when he and friend are on the field at the same time. he is in great form for newtown as well so deserves a call up. mose needs to work on his workrate and fitness before he is considered. leilua will be a dynamo coming off the bench into the backrow trust me. he is being played out of position and will offer plenty of spark and creativity.
