I think you're onto something there. Straight line speed isn't THAT useful in footy unless you're JAC and your tactic centres around scoring a lot of long-range tries off intercepts and the like.

As such, who's our fastest player around the ruck? Teddy, Verrills, Watson, Walker...?

Guys like Suaalii, Toops, Manu and Sitili can easily break a line (including against the Drizz last week). I wouldn't say we're necessarily slow. Suaalii's defence is telling too as he reads the game quickly and is making an art of bumping top notch players.

Other teams? Maybe Ponga, Pap, Trbo, Wighton, Luai, Walsh, Munster, Staggs, Cobbo, Lomax, Cook (based on team lists this week, but I don't watch other teams THAT closely). During Origin I reckon Ponga and Munster were some of the quicker two. Teddy's farkin' top notch though... I don't think we'd a lot of footy speed if we sent a bunch of recruiters down to ES Marks (although any junior national-level sprinter will smoke 100% of NRL players over 100m, I kid you not).

Suaali has high praises from the sprint coach, hopefully we'll see him in full flight one day.

Toop is exceptional fast in long distance, i recall he got quite close with The Fox in 2018 GF intercept try running from opposite side

IMO his attack's 1/2 baked (attack's not quite there yet with silly offsides/shepherds...etc), yet he still dominates.

Having Teddy, Toops, Manu and Suaalii in your backline is hardly slow! Add to that Walker, Keary, Verrills, Watson, Radley and Sitili... IMO we've got plenty of go-forward + ruck speed.

Suaalii hit over 35kmh a few weeks ago on the telstra tracker to be easily our quickest this year. Sorry edit Kevin Naquaima clocked over 36km how the hell I did that??? I have no idea lol.

The Manly duo and the Fox would be the 3 quickest and would have absolutely smoked Jarryd Hayne when he was at his quickest. (A previous poster claimed he is the quickest past 15 years)

Hayne ran about 11s in that joke of a sprint all those years ago won by Lachie Turner from ran rah. But the young Manly centre ran 10.58s which was an Australia record for the schools association he was in (GPS?) a few years back as a school boy and the Fox and Saab would easily go under 11s for the 100m for sure.

I remember some sprint coach saying Hayne could become a very good sprinter but I doubt he would have been the quickest in the past 15 years.
