    We're rebuilding...this in another season
    "towards 2025".
Every game basically a trial until then.

      We should've been ready.
Would've been nice if the Club had told the fans the team wasn't ready and would likely lose.
      We could've stayed home.
Cost me $30.00 to park the car.
      I wish I'd stayed home.

Our last 3 premierships we lost round 1. We always struggle. I think even the Tigers beat us one year

That is probably one thing we can take out of the performance.
Two guys that got a run in the trials (Toops and Sitili) were probably ready for the game and were our best.
The rest of the team looked completely underdone.
None of them played trials, so they were not ready for the contest.
There are too many good players in our side that have performed at high standards in the past, so I expect they will pick it up in the next couple of weeks.
The second half of the Knights game was pretty much a yawnfest for me.
Knights had a lot of the ball ( because we kept turning it over to them) but the positive was that our defence was pretty solid.
Knights couldn't do much with the ball that was exciting, but either could we, so it turned into the yawnfest.
I am hoping a few of our guys can step up and make a few tackle busts in the forthcoming games , as there were none on offer in today's showing..
It was if the guys who hadn't played before today were still in holiday mode , at the beach , sipping tequilas.
Hopefully, the loss will knock the complacency out of them.

It is also better to lose at the beginning of the year , and build , and time the run for the end of season.
        Anyone remember the '75 roosters?
Lost 2 of the first 3 games (I think) , then blew every other team off the .park, for the rest of the season.

Yes, Clifford has played a couple of blinders against us in the past....

Two suspected ACLs for the storm now too, welch and Jennings.

In my opinion, the Storm's chances for the title have nosedived on this news.
Welch is so important to the Storm's middle, and he is way underestimated.
When the Storm have won their comps, he has been there.
When he is not there , they do not finish it off.

They have players that will come in and play like they have been there forever -mmm they won't be underdone either

I think Welch has torn his achilles tendon- he will be lucky to be back before September. It's a injury i know very well because i did it twice-both times at Belmore oval- both times the left tendon.

The reality was far different, unfortunately.
The Knights were far too big, far too fast and slick in attack, and far too strong.

                      *All* our players had Covid.
ScoMo has it again and looks terrible this time, seems to have lost welght.
Our players should've been put in a bubble months ago and never let catch it.
                      Covid affects lungs.
Our players looked like they have affected lungs.
As has been mentioned in this thread earlier by others...our players looked weak and lethargic, no energy.

After the debacle of this match, there should be an investigation.
The investigation should start with a complete health check of all players, every one of them...starting with lung x-rays and lung capacity tests.

                      • There is a simple reason we lost today.

                        COMPLACENCY.

We expected an easy game, a walk in the park. We turn up we win. It’s that simple.

Correct, the multi I had on tells the same story

Easts 19+ ,Teddy,Toops,Momo, and Gus anytime try scorer

                          Haha i just missed

                          • Their first try was from a once in a career clanger from Tedesco.

Their second try was from a simple one on one from Momo.

More concerning we had zero line breaks. When did that last happen? 1990?

I know it's round 1 and all that but geez that was one of the worst performances I can remember for a long time.

                            Newcastle completely dominated.
Born and bred in the eastern suburbs.

                            • Keary playing half takes his favorite play of skipping outside a defender to create a overlap away.
He has always been a running 5/8 and i feel the chooks are a lesser threat in attack with him in the 7.
nothing to do with the loss just an observation .
I think he will be a great 7 but still a better 5/8

                              • Well there you go, so much for for a the prevailing thought around here, that Newcastle were going to be a pushover.
A bit of reality, we are an average to a good side, and a top four position probably not going to be realised.
Forget this first game nonsense (no fairy tale 1975 here), we were plodders, and directionless. There was more energy in a sparrow fart, than in our side combined.
Apparent and really must be obvious, is that JWH looks burnt out, Angus reinforces the fact that he is not the Messiah, and should bugger off into the union wilderness.
Overall, I reckon the newer players will step up, as the season progresses, and brighten up our lives, and I am looking forward to us putting 60 on Souths.
