Mate, the Norths Bears are effectively the Roosters reserve grade side.
To say that they use a different ground to train on , like North Sydney oval, does not mean that the NRL couldn't schedule their weekend games as a curtain raiser to the main game.
There would have to be lots of $$$ flowing in our "junior pathways program " from the Roosters to the Bears, anyway.
The coaches Robinson & Taylor are in constant communication.
It all reeks of stinginess by the NRL , who probably don't want to subsidise or throw money at the 2nd tier competition.
Anything is possible if you want to make it happen.
They should put it to a fan vote - those politically correct motherf@#ers Abdo & VLandys make all the decisions for us , and really have no idea what the average RL fan wants.
I have already said I have no interest in the women's game, but I need to shut up because I am not following the latest fashion trend..

Its been explained a 100 times on here why its not possible.

      So fill me in, genius.
I understand that Bears vs Storm, Broncos, Warriors, Cowboys is impossible.
But Souths, Dogs, Parra, Sharks, Saints, Tigers, Riff etc ate just down the road.
      Why is it not possible?.
Preserving the playing field from stud marks?
Thats why its not possible. you answered your own question.
King salvo can explain it better than me

But the NSW cup is being played amongst the Sydney teams already?
So why not showcase that before the firsts game?
Am I missing something here - is it SO impossible?

If your happy to watch Blacktown Workers v Canberra before a Roosters game whilst Norths are playing Western Suburbs Magpies before the West Tigers & who ever game then I can see your point but if you want to see Norths every week before a Roosters game its impossible. The only way it would be possible is if all 16 NRL teams had a reserve grade team.
I would rather watch a reserve grade game of mens footy even if its not Norths than a womens game which one team is the Roosters.

As a sentimental old fossil, I lament the loss of the 3 grades on the same day (that is 3 grades of one club),some of the best times of my life was strolling up from the flea pit I inhabited in Bronte Road, just up from the Junction to the sportsground (south east corner), meet up with my mates and assorted girlfriends, settle in for a good arvo.
Yes, I'm aware of the brave new world we coinhabit, nevertheless, I'm not convinced, the loss of these games, was progressive move.
Stuff me, even The local Rugby Union team here has 4 games on the same day....1sts..reserves under 18's and women's team.
As already mentioned, watching the lower grades, gives a good indication to who to look forward, to progressing further.
            Well there you go.

Mickie, its as simple as aligning the NSW cup feeder sides games, with the NRL schedule for their first grade counterparts..
The only out- of - towners are the Canberra side.
For instance , when the Roosters FG play the Broncos, the Norths side is given a bye, (as is already the case in the NSW knock on cup).
Personally, I would love to see the Norths side run around.
But I am time poor, so the thought of watching a Roosters game on the weekend, then go travel to North Sydney oval to watch the Bears, has little appeal for me.
Plus , you would have the added bonus of the reserve grade playing in front of some decent crowds, rather than nobody.

So why doesn't t the NRL schedule their games before the Roosters first grade?
I for one would turn up to the SCG an hour earlier before the main game, just to see them have a run.
Like in the old days - u 23's, reserve grade , then firsts.
Memo to V'landys & Abdo : I am not interested in watching the NRL women's side.
Despite their charms, I just can't see any of the NRL women's squad forcing their way into the men's Roosters NRL lineup.
21 of the NSW Cup squad are Bears contracted players and 8 or so of these players were in the 17 in last weekends game. To see the future first graders for NRL and NRLW (i.e not signed by the Roosters ) watch the junior rep/pathway games

The Bears players are part time players mostly -train twice a week whilst holding down a job or studying - mmm like the old days

                https://www.northsydneybears.com.au/...-cup-signings/

NSWRL run the state based juniors and seniors comp not the NRL.

You would miss most of the reggies game if you turn up 1 hour before the NRL game - a good half hour or so between games if 2 played on the same day and ground

There will never be 3 grades on the one day again

Better get used to it especially when all clubs have a NRLW side.

mmm another horse and buggy person - Are you serious - they are not trying to force their way into any Men's team or would want to be judged against Male players - same as any of the Women's teams in Cricket/Football/AFL/Basketball etc

As the season progresses you will see more Bears players that Roosters players in the 17 each week - last week there was around 8 Bears players in the 17

Norths fund their own junior reps sides and pay the wages of their contracted Bears NSW Cup side players for both Women and Men's sides.- I dare say the coaching staff and what not too for all these sides would be paid for by the North Sydney Bears as well.

That was the issue with the Wyong Roos and why that arrangement ceased - they wanted the Roosters to foot the bill for the whole lot

Under the agreement, the Sydney Roosters paid Wyong a fixed amount at the start of each season, including providing players not selected to play NRL each week and paid or reimbursed Wyong for meals, travel and accommodation.

However Wyong Leagues had to recruit and pay the wages of the players not on an NRL Contract, provide six coaching and ancillary staff and cover the lion’s share of other costs to field a team in the Intrust competition.

Your not grasping it - The NSWRL run the state based junior reps/ Jersey Flegg/NSW Cups both Women's and Men's and the local leagues and Country Division comps.

The NRL has no say in how they run it including the draws for these comps as the NSWRL are the Governing Body for all aspects of Rugby League in NSW and the ACT.

Thanks for your explanation Salvo - I do understand that the second tier competition is run by the NSWRL and not the NRL.
But you just made a point about all the Bears players and coaches being paid by the North Sydney Bears (funded by Norths Leagues club, I suppose?)
But when the Roosters decide to poach the Bears players, at anytime at the drop of a hat , so they play Roosters FG, do they just take them away for free?
Its just the Roosters contracted players (on our team list) playing reserve grade, that the Roosters can select. Correct, or not?
Do the North Sydney committee just hand these players over for nothing, for free, because of their loving relationship with the Roosters?
Having just paid all the coaching and facilities ?
To me , its too incestuous - I can't believe that the NSWRL doesn't get some funding from the main game, and Norths don't get anything from the Roosters.
And the point I am making is what I would like to see as a fan - not things decided for me by committees of the NSWRL , NRL , ESDRLFC, NSDRLFC, or other bureaucrats.
                    .

                      .
I imagine it would be hard to attract players to a NSWRL team who didn't have an affiliation with an NRL side. Surely part of the sell is that North's can provide a pathway to the NRL through their affiliation with the Roosters.

                      • North Sydney Bears players could also be called on to play NRL if required - Clubs have extended benches to cover for injuries etc - 2022 the Roosters extended bench is Abbey/Carr/Brown/Lani Graham -Taufa/ Karawalevu/May/Roberts/Va'a

Last year Benny Marshke/ Benny Thomas and Brad Abbey for instance were North Sydney Bears contracted players paid by North Sydney Leagues Clubs

All three were included on the Roosters extended bench in 2021 due to the injury toll and retirements and what not- My Understanding is players are not paid for just being on this extended bench they have to be called on to play.

Ben Marshke was activated early on from this extended bench due to the shortages of dummy halves - Friend/Verrills all not playing-Lussick broke his arm a short time later- Marshke was signed to a development contract for 2021 and extended to 2022.

Ben Thomas and Brad Abbey were activated from the extended bench at various times during the season as well and signed to short term contracts - $1000 per week and $3000 per NRL game

The NSW Cup was cancelled Mid June and I would figure that players would still have been paid unless they were signed to an NRL Contact of sorts - Noting that Non NRL contracted players playing NSW Cup are not Paid a lot - $3,000 to max $10,000 or so salary range- very much part time players.

More than likely though since Ben Marschke/Ben Thomas/Brad Abbey were on Roosters contracts Norths may not have had to pay them for their Bears Contracts as little as that may have been - as this was being more than covered by the Roosters contracts for all 3.

Abbey is still listed below as an extended bench player so not sure about that status.

Mounties were Canterbury's Feeder side but Canterbury have their own Reggies side in 2022. Not sure who the Mounties are the feeder side for if anyone?

They do have a side in Ron Massey Cup - Previously until this year they had a side in the Sydney Shield as well
