There are 2 types of grubs in the NRL

    1. The type that plays it really hard on the field. Hits hard, runs hard, gets fired up on the field and that opponents don't look forward to playing against. What makes these types of players "grubs" are that they often go to far when fired up and as a result unnecessarily can give away a few penalties and cop a few suspensions. But never do these types of grubs intentionally go out to injure. They are grubs on the field, cults heroes within their clubs, and respected by the majority of the NRL world. While being gentlemen off it. And secertly most fans from other clubs only call them grubs caz they wished they played for their own team. Prime examples of such players are JWH, Morley or Rads

    2. The second type of grub also plays hard, runs hard and gets fired up on the field. These players also often go to far on the field and give away unnecessary penalties. However unlike the above when things aren't going their way they intentionally go out of their way to hurt or injure, even deliberately breaking the rules to do so. They are arrogant, egotistic, never admit they are wrong, and play the victim at every opportunity. Rarely do they take ownership for their misconduct whether that be on the field or off it. As a club you eventually ask yourself is it worth having this sort of player in your team? Examples include Munster, Willie Mason and Latrine.

Both types of grubs will continue to be a presence in our game. And the media love the attention that they bring and the NRL market them accordingly to build up the hype. And so for what it's worth I think it's fair game to dislike the second type of grub, provided one doesn't bring their family or race, religion etc into it. Sledge them at games, laugh at them on forums and remember its all part of the show that is the NRL

Its a funny one Superman because every person I talk to who doesnt follow the Roosters reckons JWH is the biggest grub in the League, no-one talks about 2 types of grubs, just a grubby player.
JWH, Rads, Latrell, Rapana, George Burgess, McGuire, Luai, C Walker have all been picked in FG for years because coaches love those types of players & if you want to win comps you need those types of players.
Do I think any of them are grubs, not really. For the whole time Ive followed Rugby League its always been rough, dirty, grubby so its part of the game to me. I enjoy it.
If people dont think coaches including Robbo dont ask their players to hit the opposition player as hard as possible to try to hurt him which could injure them then I'll give it away. All players try to hurt the opposition player & if their not trying to hurt the opposition player then they wont be in FG.
Rads went real close to injuring 2 Tigers players last night the 1st was when he went high from behind on Brooks I think & he just missed his jaw with his forearm & the 2nd was when he sort of crusher tackled 1 of the Tigers forwards. Its all part of footy.

Absolutely every coach tells their players to go hard and hurt the opposition. I do think though that there are players who go out to hurt, and then there are some players that sometimes go out to injure. For me there is a clear difference between the two motives. Which separate the two types of grubs I was referring to in my earlier post.
Its like fast bowlers bowling bouncers to imitate. The bowler that bowls them to scare the batsmen is different to the bowler who bowls them to injure the batsmen.
Out of curiosity those non-roosters fans who you talk to, how many of them would want JWH at their club?

Why does he keep being brought up? This is a rooster forum not a thug forum.

They hate JWH so they dont want him at their club just like Roosters fans who hate Latrell say they wouldnt want at the Roosters. I love JWH & the way he plays the game same as I love the way Latrell plays the game.
            Aggressive, dirty, rough & grubby.

Which team who has won a GF over the last 10 years hasnt been grubby?
            2021 Penrith
            2020 Melbourne
            2019 Roosters
            2018 Roosters
            2017 Melbourne
            2016 Cronulla
            2015 Cowboys
            2014 Souths
            2013 Roosters
            2012 Melbourne
            2011 Manly

            Maybe the Cowboys.

The Dogs used to have grubby players when they were at the top but over the last 4 to 5 years they havnt & thats why they came last. They knew it was a problem so they brought Hetherington Thompson & TPJ, I guarantee you they wont come last this year.
The Broncos have got no grubs & they will finish in the bottom 4.

We bred him, and made him what he is today, the good and the bad, let’s not pretend he wasn’t a grub/thug with us.

More play the victim bullshit from Mitchell and Souths - Danny Weidler column

Souths, Mitchell blame Roosters for backlash

Latrell Mitchell said a lot this week, but the line that should be a concern for the game and the NRL is his belief that he is not supported, and almost a loner, in rugby league.

Mitchell made his views known on the state of the game, in particular that the aggression had gone out of rugby league and that we “may as well play Oztag”. Those thoughts are valid and controversial at the same time. Souths and Latrell Mitchell are well aware of the power of the Roosters and the influence they have over sections of the media.

They echo what players say privately, but they are headline worthy because of Mitchell’s last act on the field: an unfortunate shot on his close mate Joey Manu that resulted in a major injury for the Roosters superstar and left Mitchell with a six-game ban. The pile-on that followed the Mitchell-Manu incident was unprecedented. Mitchell was treated like a criminal in some quarters, some even saying he did it deliberately. The commentary around it ended some long-term friendships in the game. And here is where Mitchell feels alone.

“I never had many mates anyway,” was his response to a question about finding out who his supporters really are.

Souths and Mitchell are well aware of the power of the Roosters and the influence they have over sections of the media. The club – or individuals at it – are experts at back-grounding the media, and they benefit enormously from those relationships.

Mitchell and Souths believe that influence was used to attack the star fullback; that any chance the tackle could have been viewed as an accident was overrun by the Roosters pushing another version of events in the media. That’s why Mitchell feels isolated.

Then there is another layer. Mitchell’s departure from the Roosters following their 2019 premiership still angers many at Bondi Junction. Some believe a third straight title in 2020 was achievable with him in their line-up.

When I spoke to Mitchell during the week, he made the observation that “there’s a bit of fuel there that youse used against me”. It’s clear Mitchell has trust issues with the media and, in some instances, he has valid concerns. Mitchell didn’t like the way my story was promoted or presented about him having a go at the NRL – and he is entitled to feel like that.

Of the 15 interviews Mitchell did on Tuesday, it would be hard to find a journalist who did not appreciate that he fronted up and spoke from the heart. It was a mature option from Mitchell, who, in the past, has done his best to avoid the media. He also knows the power of the media, and his management has signed him up to Fox Sports, an organisation he has had issues with.

Fox was less than thrilled that Mitchell gave his best views to rivals, but Mitchell and Souths know if he is in a battle, sometimes it’s good to have an ally. It is hard to forget the rage of some Roosters in round 24 last year. It all sets up for a blockbuster round-three clash.

The hypocrisy of that article is astounding. SMH journalists including Weidler have been South’s mouthpieces for the past decade.

What a dreadfully biased piece by Weidler. The media manipulation myth about Easts, that Souths fans hang their hats on, has been supported bigtime here by this hack. He could lead the chants from the Burrow this year.

Souths supporters seem to think we’re a soulless club? This myth about the pull over media and signings is absolutely ridiculous and laughable. As jack said a complete myth. RD 3 will be a belter, can’t wait till we match up.. not going to say we will be belting him all night as he’s a big bloke who’s hard to put away but the intensity and collision will be brutal.

What was the point of that article - only re-ignites something that was/should have been put to bed.

He was suspended for 6 weeks for a reason - the base points for the charge was 500 points add the 4 non similar offences 20% loading each that's 900 points less 25% discount for an early plea that 675 points - 6 matches and 75 carryover points.

Even with no loading 500 points and 25% early plea is 375 points - 3 games - so would have missed the GF in any case still.

It can't be the worlds against me and he was hard done by and misunderstood if it was self inflicted though.

These so called journalist need to present more positive stories and not focus on negatives ones and or be the mouthpiece for individual players or clubs beefs
