In saying that, in the lower grades he had a good offload so maybe he could start using this skill a bit more.

Egan Butcher on the other hand might have more to his game and could be a rep player. Just needs to cut out the 300 knock-ons a game.

IMO the same coulda been said about a lot of Penrith players pre-2020/21. Origin players are selected on form and all Nat needs is a solid season where East are top-2 while Liam Martin, Ryan Matterson, Tariq Sims, Junior Paulo, Isaah Yeo, Cameron Murray...etc (lotsa inconsistent players in there who had a good 2021) are struggling to find form.

Can't say I'd be disappointed if Pemriff and Souffs both had shyte seasons. I certainly hope our forwards have got the wood on them in 2022 (and beyond).

One-sided I know but Butch is part of the reason why we didn't completely tank in 2021 without Cordner, Friend, Keary, Collins, Morris, Suaalii...etc. IMO he has the character and now just needs a taste of blood & he'll be absolutely destroying teams. It'll come when we start beating Souffs/Pemriff/Melbourne. 2022 Is gonna be a great year for any Easts fans who enjoy coming of age movies as there's gonna be a lot of those kinds of stories.

I am happy with the 3 Captains. JWH deserves the rscognition with an official leadership role, Teddy and Kez will probably be away for Origin, and giving the young blokes a taste of responsibility is a good move with the future in mind.

For mine, it's impossible to understand how anyone who's watched Nat Butcher play, like we all have, could possibly consider him no more than a fill-in, an honest toiler.

The guy is a defensive superstar, agile with super fast feet, who allows no quick play the balls - ever. Watch how many times he's marker and he's letting the tacked player up and he's slowed everything down perfectly.

In attack he's so much better than you think. Takes the tough runs and still makes metres because he's so good on his feet. When he runs, the collision he makes with the defender asks many questions. Soon those defenders will start missing him.

Of course we all disagree on this player and that player, everyone has their opinion. I've been wrong about many.

I like the idea of giving JWH and Rads some leadership role. It might mean less suspensions when they feel they are being looked upon as leaders.

So what you're saying is that about half a dozen players need to lose form completely and Nat needs to play out of his skin and then he's a rough chance of making the team

No... there's half a dozen players who I doubt will be certain to retain their spots. For him to play, he needs 1 or 2 of them to lose form at a point in time when Easts' forwards are leading the comp.

Nobody's guaranteed a spot and if we're in form while a couple of these guys are inconsistent then the potential is there.

With all due respect you're dreaming mate.

Nat can play a couple of roles. He can play that middle third player or he can play on an edge. He can't and won't play front row at Origin level. So lets have a look at the players in front of him.

MIddles
Jake Trbojevic, Cameron Murray, Isaah Yeo, Victor Radley, Nathan Brown. Cameron McInnes, Dale Finucane. So he needs 5 or 6 of those guys to get injured or drop off the form map

Cameron Murray, Keaon Koloamatngi, Angus Crichton, Tariq Sims, Haumole Olakau’atu, Josh Schuster, Wade Graham, Liam Martin.Once again, if 4 or 5 of those lose all form, then yeah he might get a look in.

I just don't see him being a realistic chance of ever being an Origin player unless there's a heap of injuries.There's nothing wrong with just being a club player either, Aubo seemed to make a decent career out of it

Me too & think exactly the same.
Its worked at the Chooks having 2 captains but if it was up to me I would have 1 captain & 1 vice captain. Not everyone gets a prize.
