Not saying I agree that HB is the 'boss half', but IMO that was Robbo's 2021 messaging and he made a big deal about it before Keary's injury.

Side note, I think Joey's the one who made a big deal outta 'the HB [owning] the result' because in all his teams, the result centred around Joey Johns having a cracker. Aside from that, I think 6/7 are just numbers and it was a pretty self-centred comment that came back to bite every NSW halfback ever since (pretty much), when it's not really their fault our team s*cked compared with a valid golden generation of QLD immortals (I mean #9 arguably owned the results... the one wearing a maroon jersey).

IMO the truth in the matter is that Johns' #7 was more like Jordan's #23 than anything (although basketball numbers are even more meaningless than 6's and 7's). Joey always took it as a talisman and it meant 'Johns is here' rather than 'all #7's take the lead role and own results like an immortal'.

As for his remark, I find it comparable to John Howard's classic 'THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN' remark. A lot of people were reminding him that the people had spoken when he lost his seat). IMO such remarks are best avoided (and forgotten - as they are pretty meaningless).
people can see it as a 'demotion' but it wouldn't worry keary.

True. I just literally dunno the difference between 6/7 and can't see why it'd be swapped around.

In my mind, #7 it's the consistency player and #6 is usually a bit more crazy/risky. On that basis, I see Walker as the #6. Examples of this:
      - Cronk (consistent) and JT (risky)
      - Cronk (consistent) and Keary (risky... now being asked to mature and be more of a consistency player)
      - Johns (consistent) and Freddy (risky)
      - Pearce ([in]consistent) and Carney (risky)
      - Pearce (consistent) and Maloney (risky)
      - Hughes (boringly consistent) and Munster (crazy mofo with temperament issues)

I see Walker as being the risky dude with his lob passes and kicks. He's almost become a 'last 15 minutes of razzle dazzle when we are down by 1-12 points' specialist. That said, he has a consistency element in that he doesn't miss those drop goals.

Question: if Walker is #7, what job will he play? Why would the crazy dude go at #7?

maybe they should both wear 6.5? ricky stuart used to say the number 7 owns the result but i'm still not sure what he meant by that.

keary's going to be the senior half and he can organise but walker knows his footy and he'll have his say too. might take a while for them to work out how they work together, but when they get going they'll be lethal.

I reckon Keary should wears number 6 but plays halfback & Sammy should wear number 7 & plays 5/8 just to confuse the opposition.

your kinda ontp something there , generally halves pairing work best with an organiser and as ypu say a risk taker aka a running half.
