  • Kevin Naiqama Set to sign one year deal.

    From SMH

    Naiqama’s encore

Three-time UK Super League premiership winner and grand final man of the match Kevin Naiqama has employed Sam Ayoub as his agent to look for one last deal in the NRL, and the 32-year-old is poised to join the Roosters. It was anticipated he would retire after his third straight Super League title with St Helens a few weeks back.

The Roosters and Tigers have shown interest in Naiqama and his silverware-winning days may not be over yet. Speaking of agents, former player manager Wayne Beavis celebrated his 80th birthday at an event organised by star client Brad Fittler on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Naiqama, 32, is set to return to the NRL after a three-year stint in the UK with St Helens.

Naiqama – who last played in the NRL with the Tigers in 2018 – is preparing to sign a 12-month contract with the Roosters, adding depth to the club’s backline following the retirement of Brett and Josh Morris.

He was a ridiculously good athlete and finisher back in the day... arguably invented those corner-post tries where the player's in by a millimetre (Ikuvalu ain't bad at them). Guessing he combines well with Teddy and they get on from their time at the Tigpies? (Easts fan from head to toe, but IMO that Tigpies outfit was REALLY fun/exciting to watch).

Aged 32 he'll be interesting to see where he's at. Unfortunately smells a bit of Reece Robinson... gun player who I rate highly, but ended on a bit of a sad note (without a farewell or anything). With Ikuvalu, Momirovski and that Silktails dude in our top 30... I hope he's not going down that path. Saying that because Robbo GENERALLY knows his players... but Joe Burgess, Ryan Hall & Reece Robinson were all pretty much shown the door before they even arrived. He's made some odd signings!!! Add Remy Casty and that Roosters hooker (what was his name again?)

        Hope he goes well!

Cheap and experienced … Good cover for injuries

I’m happy to have depth and not rely on Sitili playing centre ever ever again !

Perhaps we are letting Manu go a year earlier?
                  ala Fatrell....

This is smart if true, he's super professional, captain of his club and country and if he sticks around post footy could be helpful in bringing some young Fijian guns to the club

Could this be a signing where Manu maybe released early to take up big money offer in 2023. We have bought 2 centres in the last week. Is this in response to how the negotiations with Manu are actually going...

Kevin's a much safer bet than Brad Abbey. I agree, it's good to have a senior Fijian in the system that the kids can learn from.

As much as I’d hate to lose Manu, it seems it’s happening . Was hoping to wake up to an announcement by the club of an extension before th””November1, but alas it doesn’t look likely.

Ikavalu could be going to the Sharks so this makes a bit of sense.

No, it’s because we lost the twins,Copley, and can’t rely on billy smith to last more than a few games, add to that JS is a rookie and teddy misses about 5 games a year due to origin and rest.

The club would have lost the plot if they release Manu a year early, there would be absolutely no benefit in it for them unless he is a sulking prick like the other one we lost in the same fashion a few years ago.
