Nice of the NSW State Government to not only build us a new stadium but kick in $5.7 million for the Roosters Centre of Excellence.

    CHOOK COUP

The state government has committed $5.7 million to help fund the Roosters’ $10.6 million centre of excellence.

The training facility will be part of a revamped Sydney Football Stadium and will house high-performance training facilities, office space, medical rooms and an education theatre in the heart of the Moore Park precinct.

It will be home to the Roosters NRL and NRLW teams.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said the Roosters “are part of the fabric at Moore Park”.

“I’m sure current and aspiring players, fans and club officials will be ecstatic to have their future home cemented in the Chooks’ heartland,” Stokes said. “There will be opportunities for schools and local junior football teams to visit the centre and enjoy a Roosters rugby league experience.”

The centre of excellence is expected to be completed in late 2022 and will be ready to use heading into the 2023 season. The SFS is scheduled for completion by the 2022 grand final.

Minister for Sport Natalie Ward said the sporting centre would “complement” the new stadium.

It would be fitting and well deserved for the centre or a part of it be named after our Godfather - Uncle Nick Politis.

Well done to the Chooks because Souths are building a ripper at Heffron Park Maroubra & the Chooks need to not let Souths get ahead of them with things like a Centre of Excellence.

Hopefully Roosters get some say in the design and fit out, I find these facilities sometimes to be very sterlie and soulless.

Not to be negative but what's the deal with calling everything a centre of excellence? I remember a previous workplace went through a stage of building centres of excellence.

I'm sure these are great facilities, but it's all a bit of a buzz word IMO.

If we owned it, we could say that, but since the government owns it, we have no say, we share it with Sydney FC, the Waratahs, government will want as many tenants as possible.

I think it's a given that Souths may co-tenant the ground. Don't get precious about it...how many teams co-tenant the MCG or Docklands. SCG/Olympic Stadium and the SFS are all mow under the one banner, so will be interesting to see what happens with the incentives Souths get to play at Homebush which they co-tenant with the Doggies.

Sounds better than saying 'hey, we will build a shed out the back for you guys to throw your training gear when you're not using it'
