Touma has had a practice in the heart of Redfern for quite a while,he has an indigenous background and is close to Mitchell. With Bennett leaving and freeing up a lot of money in their football dept cap he may well have been offered considerably more than we were prepared to pay.

Does this mean that TR and co is somehow attributing the injuries to Touma?
In an interview Robbo said they were looking at everything as a possible cause, including how they train. I don't know if he was sacked or left of his own accord but I think they were happy to go in another direction.

On whether training can reduce the risk of ACL injuries:

I think it’s a good time to start fresh and change it up. Travis has done the job well for a sustained period of time but perhaps with everything changing in the game we adapt as well. I can’t help but get this sense of feeling about us heading into next season.. almost like a new era. A whole bunch of experience both on the field and off are leaving us. Exciting times ahead though.

I have my own theory on why we have had a lot of knee injuries the past couple of years.

The training grounds at Moore Park are a very hard track and the players are used to moving on a harder surface. When our players get to a softer surface their joints become more susceptible and may give way under pressure.

No medical proof, just my thoughts.

We’ve been at that training ground for a very long time though, and only now we’re seeing multiple leg injuries.

Penrith had a very very similar run with injuries a few years ago and IC was questioned on whether he was training his boys too hard. Gus was involved too at the time I think? So I do believe teams have these periods. Unfortunately for us we’ve been hit with the double whammy - acls AND concussions.

It's the rule change!! 111 years It's been training for Rugby League in every off season BUT now the game is boarder line touch footy! So as the game changed our training didn't ie: MORE SPEED WORK LESS WEIGHTS mixed with alot of stop start bursts ( shuttle runs with beep tests)

In 2021 it showed that we were slow to get out of the blocks but then half way through we were favourite's with rads an verills having too much pace in the middle but because we didn't train for the speed at the start i believe it put too much pressure on players running around too heavy to sustain playing the fastest League game in history

There would have been questions from all concerned.
I agree that questions would have been asked. In a presser Robbo seemed bemused that we didn't have answers. Maybe that contributed... or not.

I would attribute the blame of poor field conditions to the NRL. After the Verrills/Radley nightmare last year the NRL assured us "player welfare... ground firmness checked regularly....yada yada" and then proceeded to play immediately after the major floods when some soccer events were being postponed due to the condition of the pitch. NRL is only interested in $$$ and could not give a toss about player welfare unless it involves the possibility of being sued for CTE or ending up in a wheelchair.

Ive said it before and still believe that if the NRL along with some medical body would conduct studies on players at the start of the season by getting images of their knees and again mid season and the end of the season to see if there are any changes which would indicate a deterioration of those nasty ligaments which could predict an ACL or the other ligament injuries and catch it before it happens and fix it. Why is it that a player gets an ACL in the same conditions that other players don't get it? If I was Nick, I'd forgo a big lunch with all my rich mates and put my money on getting such a study happening on my players, but I'm not Nick. Maybe studies have been conducted, but not that I've found any....

Yeah I'd say it's definitely a promotion for him ay?

The guy's done well to become a physio and no doubt has his head screwed on (when I finished high school you needed a TER of 99+ to do physio and Cumberland College took like ~20-30 students a year as it was prac intensive so they needed small numbers).

Did sports science + education instead, then ended up a pretty shyte lawyer so I have a lot of respect for the guy (particularly given he's played for Lebanon too, so I dare say was almost NRL standard in in his playing days? A few of my training buddies in Bankstown had brothers playing for the Doggies & Lebanon... it's a proud country when it comes to League and I dare say a lot tougher than their results against too-tier countries could suggest - the Lebbos I played/trained with always knew how to play footy). Wow... yep I've had a few beers and just wrote a para where my bracketed side-note was ~4-5x as long as my message. Time to keep rolling!

Best wishes to him. Hopefully Souffs go and die in a ditch somewhere now that Wayne and Reynolds are gone. But yeah... milk 'em for all you can buddy! You've worked hard to get where you are so should totally cash-in on it.

Has the role changed BTW? Touma's a physio so I woulda thought he's a tech expert (really intelligent dude with tech skills related to injury management...etc).

Misson's a vague (presumably mostly unqualified) 'leadership/high-performance expert' who did a 'Master of Leadership' (presumably one of those fluffy 6-12 month coursework thingies). He's been linked with a stack of high performing sports teams but to me it's unclear what skills he offers. Anybody know what kinda stuff he's gonna be doing with the boys?

Profile seems a bit wishy washy. Essentially [paraphrased] 'I have worked in and around teams that have won comps. I also went to uni to do a Master of Leadership... where I researched what makes a true leader' (see https://performancebydesign.co/au/our-team/).

Call me a w@nka or whatever but what does a 'master of leadership' do besides give pep talks?
