    Roosters’ top signing

The Roosters have made their most significant off-season signing – and it’s not a player.

After a shocking run with injuries in recent years, coach Trent Robinson has hired a new head of high performance.

David Misson is hugely respected in sporting circles, having worked for the Sydney Swans, AFL premiers the Melbourne Demons and St Kilda as well as Cricket Australia, the Wallabies and Tennis Australia over 25 years.

The Roosters miraculously made the finals this year despite the worst injury run in the club’s history, losing the likes of Luke Keary, Joseph Suaalii, Brett Morris, Billy Smith and Lindsay Collins with season-ending injuries as well as Boyd Cordner and Jake Friend with concussion.

Misson replaces long-time Roosters conditioner Travis Touma, who is joining the Rabbitohs.

It says ‘after a shocking run of injuries coach TR has hired a new head of high performance…’

Does this mean that TR and co is somehow attributing the injuries to Touma?

Sounds like media spin BS to me to make the little article seem juicier.

I doubt Robbo and the club think that Touma is the reason but at the same time something obviously needs to change.

Well I’m no expert in injury management but it’s a big coincidence from what I assume is the worst season for injuries in any sporting club in sports, that a long time member in the field of injury management is leaving the club.

If there is a connection with that, then I hope Souffs get the full benefit of that.

Since the game changed two years ago, we have been injury ravaged, the trainers couldn’t keep up with the new game, time to try somebody different.

Travis Touma was the one who left us for Souths he wasn't punted so it's hardly what the tidbit article describes.

Can't blame Touma for the ACLs. Four out of the five ACLs were on soft surfaces, Verrills/Radley at Bankwest Stadium that was re-turfed afterward, and Collins/Jmoz in Newcastle just after the major flooding. The other one was Keary in Souths game and sometimes shit just happens.

Well if they do then let's hope he continues the same system with vermin next year

"Travis Touma has the full support of the club..ahem..."

I didn't say he was punted, but it's a huge coincidence he has left in our worst time for injuries.

You can't blame the fields otherwise there would have been other clubs suffer the same problems BUT as for Toumas role, well all I can say is that with all my training in injury management high performance and all of that which is Zero (other than dealing with my own personal injuries) all of these ACL's, head injuries and other major injuries we have suffered more than most is just down to bad luck that it all happened in his watch BUT 'bad luck' is not an excuse for a good business to accept blindly. There would have been questions from all concerned.

I think they are and they aren't at the same time? Like I've heard Robbo say 2 things:
                              1. We haven't changed the staff or the techniques so it's a surprise that we're getting all these injuries as we're talking about proven trainers/techniques.
                              2. That said, there's no such thing as bad luck. Something was wrong with our training/conditioning and we need to fix it quick smart.

My thinking would be that we simply need a new direction. Touma's done a good job (just like Ronnie Palmer did a great job). But... times/rules have changed and maybe he's gotten a bit stale?

I personally think that it's a good idea getting somebody in from other sports because we're seeing different demands (and injuries) now that the rules have changed. Given our injury toll (and the mental toll it musta taken on Touma), I think a fresh face will add a lot of value. Meanwhile, Touma's got a job, is earning $$$ and I don't think we're trying to say he's a shyte trainer.

Another thing I like about Robbo is that he's a development coach. I don't think he's a d*ck about releasing people or rejecting them. I get the feeling he likes to value add by asking people to answer questions about their career progression/development by themselves.
