Terrible tonight and for a lot of the season
Jake & Cords were work horses in defence for the Chooks for years & they were very very good at it & then to lose them was always going to have an effect on the Roosters defence. Sitilli & Crighton are both highly regarded they would make any NRL team they are in a team that finished with a better defensive record than 13 other teams so I dont think Sitill & Gus are a worry.

I’m worried the model 2nd rower has changed and we’ve missed a beat, watching the likes of Josh Schuster (22 games), Koloamatangi (35 games) & Olakau’atu (29 games) all playing edge back row and tearing up this year suggests youth isn’t an issue but they’re all physical and skilful.

Players nowhere near our 17 next year. Hutch, Keighan, Lam, Marshke, Ikuvalu, hopefully Toupanua.

Naufahu Whyte will be that player just a few years off

Yeh Radley needs to get the balance of his ball running and playing. He’s a really underrated runner of the ball and when he’s not running it makes his ball playing too obvious.

Crichton was poor. Missing tackles, 2 key errors, stupid flop on last tackle and runs that lacked impact - we need to stop wrapping him for the number of tackles he’s made. I think he needs to be rotated next year because he’s shown when he plays in short bursts he can be so effective. He was tremendous for NSW off the bench this year.

Yeh I’m a big fan of Whyte, really intelligent player just needs to get up to the physicality of the NRL. Hopefully gets some more game time next season, I wouldn’t mind seeing the likes of him and Butcher used in a rotation next year with Crichton & Tupouniua.

Having a fit SST and having Collins back will go some way to remedying our woes in the pack.

Sitili has always been awful in defence and looks unlikely to improve.

Nat Butcher is a must to keep, as is Egan.

                    Not sold on Baker yet.

JWH is going to have to be carefully managed over the final 2 years of his contract. If he wants to play the way he does, it will not bode well for his longevity. Wouldn't surprise me to see a shift to the bench possible to get the most out of him possible.

If I had a choice for 2022, it would look like:

                    Starting:
                    Collins
                    Verills
                    SST
                    N Butcher
                    Crichton
                    Radley

                    Bench:
                    Watson
                    E Butcher
                    JWH
                    Whyte

                    Res:
                    Baker
                    Tapuha

                    Gone
                    Liu - departing already
                    Sitili - moved on
                    Suluka Fifita - moved on

this is a team to get excited about lads. Let’s just pick ur team for the final 4 (not the grubs or the drizz) relax for 6 odd months, and look forward to 2022 premiership
Not sure that Keary or Collins will be ready round 1 - Keary was injured in round 3 and Collins Round 8 this season - so it would be Hutch or Lam for Keary and Baker for Collins - Not sure if Tuku Hau Tapuka/ Naf Whyte will be elevated to the 30 man squad - The other issue is goal kicking

My problem with Keighan is that while not a bad player, i'm not sure he'll have a really high ceiling.

He reminds me of Jarrod Croker - if Crocker didnt have a top kicking boot he'd struggle to make his squad. Lucky for Croker too are his leadership qualities. Not sure of Keighan has those, at least not yet.

Hard to see where Keighan fits to be frank.

                              Centres:
                              Manu, Smith, Suuali, Watson

                              Rake:
                              Verrills, Marschke, Lam, (Lussick?)

                              Halves:
                              Keary, Walker, Hutch, Lam

One of our lads is going to get the bootski or sign elsewhere in the off season. Possibly even two of them.
                              There just aint the room.

If I had the choice, i'd let go of Lussick & Hutch, and I wouldnt be surprised to see Keighan get picked up by someone unless SST really is the only other capable kicker in the ranks.

Lussick aint bad, but is simply surplus to requirements.

We have seen Hutch's ceiling. You aint going to win a comp with him in the halves, and he isn't good enough compared to Watson/Radley to fit in as a utility either. He is also going to get slower as he ages.

I think the model 2nd rower has definitely changed. Skillful with the ball in hand, a quick step, and an ability to get to the ground quickly for a quick play the ball. Unfortunately, I don't think our 2nd rowers quite hit all of these attributes. Crichton has a quick play the ball (on rare occasions) in him but his ball playing isn't quite there. Both him and Sitili are actually a bit one dimensional.

The lack of a quick play the ball throughout most of the team has me most worried actually. I've been watching Penrith, Souths and Melboune closely and it's clear to me they build a crapload of momentum by running low, falling quickly between defenders and getting to a quick play the ball.

I think it's a totally different fabric of rugby league and is so much like touch footy. But I think we need to adapt and get closer to this style of play. Big boppers with little skill and agility won't cut it anymore.
