I don't care about what you said in 2016 or in April, 2018 I asked whether you watched the 2018 grand final; the one where Keary put in a masterful 11/10 performance playing both the 6 and 7 roles getting the churchill medal for best player on ground and it wasn't even close. I asked because you said some nonsense about Keary can't organise as a half when he did it on the biggest stage with the team all but playing the game 12 v 13

I think Keary will miss early rounds of next year and Collins a few more if they stick with the 12 month return and there are no complications- Keary injured in round 3 and Collins round 8.

The plan going forward though is for players to keep improving their game whether they are playing NRL or Reggies - Don't want players dropping back to Reggies and dropping their standard and then having to trained back to NRL level when required as it could take some time to get them back to the required NRL level.

If players maintain NRL standard as well as improving then it will create pressure for positions in the NRL 17 which can only be a good thing.

I don't buy the talk the Chooks are favourites for next season though as basically Keary and Collins are the only long term injured established NRL players returning in 2022.

There are still questions on who will fill the left centre position and some may say right wing although in my view Ikuvaku is an above average winger although only signed till 2022. - Also the old goal kicking question too

Squad is 25 for 2022 if Atoni was signed although nothing has been confirmed with Moala and Lani Graham-Taufa/ Naf Whyte, Tuku Hau Tapuha and Benny Marschke listed as development players - no idea of the contract status of Vuate Karawalevu or Benny Thomas

So that leaves 5 or 6 NRL spots vacant notwithstanding the Chooks only filled 28 out of 30 NRL squad spots in 2021 and used 4 of the 5 development players and 2 extended squad players plus Friend played only 1 game and Copley 2 games- 34 players used in 2021

Not sure if they will promote internally to the full time NRL squad or go external for particular players to fill remaining NRL squad spots - not a lot of quality on the market though

I don't know about favourites but we will be competitive. Keary, Collins, Smith, Suaalii, Watson. Some good young forwards as you mention.

We also have money to spend. Andrew Webster mentioned Roosters expressed interest in Tariq Sims. I am sure Dragons would release him a year early given they have no intention of keeping him and no chance of premiership next year. It just depends on $$$

IMO Keary not as important to us under the current rules and I expect him to be granted a release to earn more money at the new Queensland franchise if/when it eventuates.

I doubt Lam, Ikuvalu, Hutch, or Keighran would take priority just because they won a premiership. Although I hope we keep Hutch.

We would need a miracle. Canterbury were delivered one by us losing in the first round of the semis putting both us and Souffs on the same side of the draw.

The Cows and Tigers were delivered one by rule changes at the end of 2004 to get rid of our gang tackling that gave the advantage to touch footy sides. History repeats.

If for some reason we didn't meet Melbourne or Penrith until the GF I would give us a very good chance of making it. I am confident we can beat Souffs and Manly.

The Chooks with about 7 or so games changed to their defensive line moving forward as soon as the ball carrier placed the ball on the ground and not when the ball was played backwards - this gave the Chooks a head start in meeting the ball runner before they reached the advantage line.

Roosters were the beneficiaries of a rule change in 2002. It was the Dominant Tackle interpretation. Opes knew it would decide the premiership and was campaigning to have it scrapped to no avail. Dean Pay mastered the rule change to win us the premiership.

In 2005, the interpretation of the Surrender Tackle was changed. A Surrender Tackle used to be a slow play-the-ball pretty much like today where defenders could pile on to slow it down. In 2005 it was changed to be a penalty to the attacking team if defenders tried to slow it down. It ended up turning into touch footy with big forward packs like the Bulldogs and Roosters being crucified. Rule was reversed in 2006 and Tigers missed the finals. Bulldogs premiers 2004, missed the finals 2005, 2nd in 2006.

I just disagreed with you that we don't need Keary to win the comp this year imo. I have confidence in the team we currently have to do the job even though it is a big task. I said him in the team increases our chances as do the others who are missing.

I believe we can beat the Titans and Manly (coming off a hard loss).
Lets say Cleary gets injured, which isn't unheard of, as hes been carrying a dodgy shoulder.
Then, lets say Munster aggravates his injury and Paps cops another head knock.
I say we have a crack and see what happens.

Most years the winner is the team that's the healthiest come finals. We just lost our players early in the season and then learnt to adjust to it early.
