Jack we are having a discussion about a player like there have been discussions in the past and in recent times of other players too. It is a normal way of venting our frustration about the year so far. It all starts in a normal manner with people describing what they think of that player, in this case Lam... There is nothing wrong in saying he's crap, or he's not up to first grade standard or anything else because it's been accepted that fans can have a point of view about their teams, in whatever sport in whichever country, but the problem arises when some don't like what is being discussed and then thats when the member against member insults start, and one of the main one is that norfolk kid with calling other members 'carnts', dickheads, 'shit and anything in his limited vocabulary, and if you're hitching your wagon to his, well that's just disappointing cause you're better than that, AND there are one or two that don't agree with the narrative of this thread, but don't resort to childish name calling.

With that said, this idea that we should be understanding that we have lost so many players etc etc etc... yes I'm sure that many here understand that but it still doesn't stop people from questioning the ability of certain players. Even the best players have had some critics from time to time, but on the other end of the scale as far as experience goes, even young Maerschke has had his critics even when he has busted himself and has played great games AND is a 4th string hooker. I think I asked you this before, but have you been as vocal here about why people are being critical about a 4th string hooker who at times has come off the field with a blood soaked jersey? Well if you have, I missed it. And from reading your posts lately about Lam, you seem to have a personal connection with him more than what i sense from other members...If so, I wonder if this is affecting your ability of being objective about Lam or at the very least, understand that people are allowed to have a say about the club...And lets be real here, Lam is not a 4th string 5/8 or half, his not even 3rd or 2nd. He is the first choice 5/8 as chosen by Robbo at the start of the season, but as a fan and as you might call me dickhead and other dickheads like me, we are disappointed in his overall ability to lead the side like young Walker has done in his very brief NRL career and young years.

Nobody on here has anything personal against Lam. I don’t think anybody on here actually knows him personally. I assume he is a really good bloke.

When it comes to his footy ability he is limited. He’s not going to be the one in our halves when we win our next premiership. Injury permitting next year, he won’t even get a spot on the bench. Nobody can question his effort and enthusiasm though. I see him as a very average footballer with little potential for improvement. I hope he can prove his many doubters wrong. I’d love to end up with egg on my face as no doubt many on here would. Just can’t see it happening.

He was shocking at times and yes there were those here that were very blunt about his overall ability in those early years, and I recall his comments post 2018 GF where he said that he recall being sad about the criticism he copped in those years and I immediately thought of the commentary here of when he first started BUT maybe all that criticism here or from the stands, maybe that was the catalyst that made him work extra hard and improve enough to be the best centre in the comp and the world, a 2 x GF winner, 2 x WCC winner and NZ rep... The difference back then when Manu started is that even though he was terrible at times, there were signs he had some talent...Somehow I just cant see that in Lam, but what do I know, I'm just a simple fan, in the Chookpen!

I saw lots of Manu in the 20s. He was fantastic. He was the go to man. Any criticism of him on here was probably due to his lack of involvement. We could see what potential he had back then. I never saw any of this potential in Lam. I've never seen him dominate a game of football at any level. Hopefully that's around the corner.

Good points mate. I will add that Lachie was our starting 6 at the beginning of the year. Granted Walker would have got a crack at some point regardless. If he's not in our "top 17" now he must be damn close.

Name me one player who wasn’t harshly criticised in these forums? Tedesco was our worst singing. Friend should’ve been sacked in 2017. Toupo shouldn’t be selected as he gets pushed back too easily. Manu cannot tackle, etc etc etc
Fans speak/write through their passion, some even save their money to be able to buy a jersey or tickets and go watch their team play. Expressing their disapproval of the form of a player shouldn’t not discouraged as long as it’s not racist or sexist.

In the past I have bagged players like Firman, who was absolutely useless, Finch, who cost us more games than he won, Anasta who could make trying to kick a football look like a 3 year old trying to do quantum physics, in a bad way. Mason who I thought was a crook. But they were all on big money. Starting threads DEDICATED to bagging players like Lam and Iku is something I would never do.
