  • Does the NRL need a disclaimer? *

With the recent rule changes causing consternation amongst players, clubs and fans; it leads to the question:

Does the NRL need a disclaimer? *

Gus Gould raised it recently, that the professional game should come with a warning -
    DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME!

I’m nearly sure if you asked the players, coaches, referees and fans they would all agree.

Not sure what your saying - players know the rules and the rules haven't changed it's just that the NRL haven't implemented them and were made to do so after the Chooks vs Parra game - you can't tackle high / hit a ball carrier in the head with your arm and or shoulder - that's been in the rules since day dot.

Players knew what was coming but some haven't got the belated and long overdue message - Sitili had the chance to make a proper tackle but tackled high instead - it will cost him 2 to 3 games on the sideline

It's really naive of Gould to say that it's okay as players know what could happen or to say the NRL is just doing x to avoid litigation.

Yes players can be injured in normal game circumstances that's a given but the NRL does have a duty of care for player welfare in reducing and or eliminating the risk of injury from illegal on field acts such a high tackles/ defender hitting the head of ball carriers with the arm or shoulder.

Just like how the league shows on Fox are now dominated by no-nothing women - Yvonne, Lara, Megan et al, you are an embarrassment - the actual game itself is run by a bunch of older women.

it should be rebranded NRLL - National Rugby League Lite.

The rules haven't changed, it's always been against the rules to hit the head of an opposition player. The thugs have been getting away with it for years, if they enforce these rules they will attract many more skillful players to the game in the long run. Late hits, overly aggressive hits, and contact with the head should all be sent for at least 10 minutes.

The real embarrassments are Thurston, blocker,Hodges,Anasta,Thaiday, even Cronk who can bore you to death. The girls are probably a bit too articulate to be put alongside some of these guys.

Gee mate, pretty harsh - Yvonne does a great job IMO and Lara has been around for ages. Both very easy to look at, nothing wrong with that this is entertainment after all. Why are they know-nothings? Because they aren't ex players? Plenty of guys in the job are in that category.

Ennis for mine is intolerable - a loud know all who cannot shut up for 5 seconds - like fingernails on a blackboard.

Some of the tackles are preventable like Sitillis last night!
But I agree with the sentiment of the post!
How many mothers take their kids to Martial Arts?
They learn, they lightly spa, but it doesn’t mean they fight like MMA fighters and not all will want to be an MMA fighter! Even Olympic Tae Kwon Do is soft!
There is amateur and kids sports and then there are the elites who are finely tuned machines and have something that the rest don’t to make it and survive!
There is a massive difference between under 7-15 then anything above this age group.. and I guess I stopped playing at 15 when I realised I wasn’t as tough as others!
NRL - Don’t try this at home!

                      Yep.

Without trying too hard to figure out what they're saying, I'll note that disclaimers are generally pretty useless. Places can get you to sign whatever 'contracts' they want... negligence claims are a separate matter.

TBH this is what could be driving the zero tolerance rules. In 20 years time if (for example) Teddy has brain damage and sues them, they can say 'we tried our best to stop it... our rules sent players off instantly and suspended them for head high tackles, showing no tolerance for head knocks'.

If they weren't "easy to look at" would they still have the jobs they've got now? Of course not. Why does rugby league coverage need Barbie dolls?

I grew up watching Debbie Spillane on the ABC.
