Insurance companies don't generally insure whatever it is for more than it's market value though - be like trying to purchase home and contents insurance from an insurance company for 4 times the value of your home and contents - it's not a case of paying a higher premium- Insurance is based on market values.

A Contract for 150k will more than likely be insurance coverage for 150k - Market value of the contract is 150k - Otherwise we will all be paying through the roof if people could insure what ever it is for what ever value they wish based on what insurance premium they could afford.

Be interested to see if he gets any insurance company to insure him.- Not sure how he could try to get insurance for multiple years if he has no contract past 2021. - Where would be the the loss of earnings if injured when not under contract?

I'm getting a funny feeling about this potential spanner in the works ?

    • his market value seems to be 600k a year. we're paying him 150k for a shortened season and that seems to be a problem.
he'd play half a season with us so his chance of contracting a career ending injury is halved - so it seems fair that he pay a premium commensurate with a 300k a year policy. you'd figure some insurance co will come to the table (and make money out of the deal)

Didn’t Teddy have an ACL injury or two when he was a rookie?

Remember when Ryan Cross used to be injured every few weeks? People on The Wall called him Quentin after a young disabled boy who he resembled and who featured on some TV stories.
I think it was Trew that gave him that killer nickname.

ACL first game NRL game in 2012 - played with a cracked fibula for much of 2013 - fractured his patella round 16 vs Canberra in 2014 - only concussions since then

Yes he did an acl in 2012, out for the season, then he fractured his patella in Canberra in 2014. He changed his running style.... you can see it, short strides in a semi crouched position, seems to have worked out ok.

                • I heard Brent Read say on MMM it's now looking unlikely this will happen.

                    Me again.

Not politically correct but those were less politically correct times. He didn’t only look like him. He had the same brittle bones.

Ryan Cross was a dead set twin son of Dutch actor Rutger Hauer, who starred in Blade Runner and the absolutely terrifying The Hitcher.

Just listened to it - always sus on how good the mail is when they say heaps of reasons without naming any haha. But Read seems to think we are losing interest rather than TJ - perhaps the insurance issue is dragging on too long for our liking

what I have been reading and hearing i think it's unlikely he will be signing on - NZ Rugby and Hurricanes have had a word with him

The Roosters will go with rookie Ben Marschke for Friday night’s blockbuster game against the Eels and the team’s coach Trent Robinson is expected to announce next week that the deal with Perenara is either on or off.

I know nothing about them but (for example) Shannons lets you name the price of your car and pay your premiums accordingly.

His income/life insurance is clearly different. However, I'm pretty confident that for the right price you can insure yourself for whatever you want.

Perenara will earn ~$750k from yawnion and league in 2021 (probably more than a million in total. $150k worth of insurance would be ridiculously low.

                                ROOSTERS ‘PESSIMISTIC’ OVER PERENARA BID

It is looking increasingly unlikely that TJ Perenara will complete his move to the Sydney Roosters.

The Australian’s Brent Read told Triple M on the weekend that the Roosters are no longer hopeful of securing his signature.

“I think the Roosters are growing a bit more pessimistic about this happening,” he said.

“[They] were hopeful a week or so ago but it looks like it won’t happen. There are multiple reasons for that.

“At the moment it appears they are losing the fight to convince TJ Perenara to switch codes and try his hand at rugby league.

“That’s a bit unfortunate because given his reputation I think we were looking forward to him playing in the NRL but it looks like at this moment it won’t happen.”

The 29-year old was understood to be negotiating a contract worth $150,000 for the remainder of the 2021 season.

However, the Daily Telegraph reported last week that income protection insurance was one of the hurdles he had to overcome before completing the move.

Missing out on Perenara would be a big blow for the Roosters given their current injury list, which appears to be growing every week.
