Yes but the Chooks looked better by going direct in attack instead of sideways/cross field and playing an up tempo game - Passes need to be a tad crisper and a few take the tackle and go again wouldn't go astray either. Things to work on in attack , defence and combo's but the foundations are there just need to build on it

Hutch is a handy back up player, who, by all reports is a great clubman and liked by his team mates. He will never be a star, will never beat 6 players in a dazzling run to the line, or chip and regather and beat the fulback to the corner. But he will go out and give his best possible effort whenver he gets the chance

100% - Trying to have someone play like someone else is doomed to fail - they just have to play their own way and the game the coaches staff want them to play based on their skills set and what the team and game plan requires.

Spoke to Lindsay coming out of the scg last night. He said he was good but he didn’t sound that confident he’d be back this week. Sammy V said he will be back for Anzac Day. He sounded very confident

Also, Souffs beat us by 1 try (and lost the second half) despite having all the possession, a 12-2 count against us (really 12-0 given the timing) and us having no bench thanks to all the injuries.

It’s our defense that’s got me worried especially against the top teams. South’s putting 24-0 on us was alarming. We’ve tightened up against the Warriors but they’re not one of the top teams. Defense wins premierships and a Bondi Wall all season will see us there GF time, but this is a new look defensive team without Aubs and Friendy with debutants. It’s early days but defense is crucial if we are to be successful.

The next 5 rounds will be quite interesting, and will probably show where we are currently at in the pecking order

If we can stay with the leaders until our injured return we are in with a great chance I reckon. But I’m wary about us leaking 24-0 to souths. That rang alarm bells for me. We have to be able to mix it with the top teams to have a chance. And the only top team we’ve played toyed with us. It’s early days but our intensity needs to increase. Warriors led 12-0. Leaking points like we have been is not a good sign.

They didn't play well that night one has to say and were frustrated and gave the Souffs Vermin too much of a leg up in conceding way too many set restarts and penalties with some rather poor defence componding this.

As I said previously the Chooks tried to play suit and tie footy when overall footy was required vs Souffs Vermin.

People will say the Chooks can't compete against the top sides - okay look at how the top sides play do they have numerous styles of the way they play? - they play pretty much the same way week in week out so there will be/should be no surprises when you play them.

The thing that stands out with the top teams vs the lower ranked teams though is how these teams work hard as individuals and as a team in defence - straight line of defence with no one mostly rushing out of the line or lazy defenders and they make it as hard as they possible can for the opposition to any score points.

If the Chooks do their home work / prepare well and play to their ability there is no reason why they could not compete with and defeat these top teams.

Teams need to prepare well no matter who they are playing as well as playing to their ability as individuals and as a team - with upsets the top team you would find didn't prepare well and didn't play to their ability both as individuals and as a team - most likely took the opposition lightly - the old just have to turn up to win attitude.
