ok... Kenny, Sterling, Coote, Lockyer ... plenty

Smith will leapfrog Fittler regardless, not in the same league
Again no real reason just a bunch of names... but anyway if you think all those guys are in a different league then I guess the convo ends there... I strongly disagree with you on that point.

        You switched clubs? Heavy.

no, I believe Smith was far superior than Freddy. I’m a roosters tragic too, but even with my bias, I can see that Freddy isn’t worthy of immortality at the moment ..

As a 5/8, Freddy led the Roosters to more Grand Finals in 9 seasons than Lockyer and JT did in over 20 seasons combined.

              Food for thought...

Love Freddy, but I wouldn't have him as immortal.

I would kick out Bozo, Johns and Meninga from the Immortals.

I would include Brett Kenny and Ron Coote to replace them.

Currently we have 3 Roosters in there - Messenger, Brown and Big Artie. Coote should also be in there.

Freddy one of my favs, but if he had the desire and fight of Thurston I think he would have been an immortal. Thurston always had the ball and seemed to demand it, Freddy went missing in some games, and even stated in his book that he was happy when we were knocked out in 2001, because he just wanted that year to end.

Not that it has a huge bearing, and he had some memorable games, but not winning a man of the match performance in any origin he played, probably doesn’t help him either. Wallys fame was pretty much all origin based, I wouldn’t have a clue what he won in the Brisbane competition.

When people say why not Freddy, I always think why not sterling?

freddy, kenny, Daley, cliffy were all greats, all fall just short, but not by much.

I agree with that question, it isn’t so much Freddy not being the top of the list it’s that he seems to be behind guys that came after him... I absolutely agree that sterling and Kenny should be ahead of Freddy... but you don’t even hear those names in the mix as much as you hear Inglis... isn’t right imo

There's a real Qld push re Immortals. These two headed banjo playing banana bending canetoads think RL started in 1980, not 1908.

No from me, as much as I adore Freddy. Just a fraction behind the absolute elite category imo, without doubt a great of the game though.

I have a good Freddy story...I'd moved from Woollahra to Brisbane for work in 2002. My mate who lived in Bondi Junction was at The Mill Hill on the Monday after the GF when the players were there. He called me and had me on the phone then went over to Freddy and told him that I was a mad keen Roosters fan who had moved to Brisbane just recently. Freddy got on the phone and had a chat. "What are you doing in Brisbane mate, why would you move away from here?" I remember him asking me. It made my year.

It has list its meaning a bit and is a media hype thing, maybe the coaching at SOO helped but Mal wasn't even that much of a leader to his own team (the raiders) that was Sticky. As a player Stuart was more imortal material than Mal.
On Freddy, I can't remember ever seeing the guy miss a tackle or make a poor read in defense, he has that over all the other contenders. There are 2 things holding him back from being a real immortal.
The 2003 and 2004 GFs, a real immortal would have stepped up as a leader and won those games

out of those 3 gfs we'd have liked to win 2. on the other side of the coin, freddy came to a club that hadn't made the finals for a decade and was a candidate for the chopping block. he was the most imp player in getting us back into the winners circle

He did a great job for our club, but he didn't stand up, maybe it was injury, maybe not, in those 2 (actually I will count the one we won too) GFs. They were all there to be won. The riff were playing so far above themselves they were ripe for the picking. but frankly Freddy went missing . Well he was a mere mortal insteal of the immortal we needed him to be
