  • No way last night was on Flanno (and other thoughts)

I'm neutral on him but no way should he cop the flack for last night. Some of our forwards ill discipline, missed tackles and general lack of hunger were the main factors.

JWH - urrghh. Need I say may more
SST - has been our best player all year, but last night was quietest game I've seen from him all year
    Liu - as above

Lussick tried hard and showed potential, but he aint Friendy when it comes to defence yet.

Flanno's thin and light, but can bulk up like Cleary. Kikau ran at him all night, but he did ok and did a beaut one on one early on. His goal kicking also showed he has clutch mentality. Irony was he shanked a relatively easier kick which could have made it 12-0. He ain't no Finch v.2. Cleary also copped a lot of flak last year - look at him now. Know nothing about Walker except youtube highlights, but am wary of people saying 'next best playmaker-saviour' thing on young kids.

Penrith are the real deal. I said a few weeks ago the only team I can be certain who'll be in the GF were the Panthers. Still not sure who the opposition would be - Melba, Easts and possibly Souffs.

Last night's score was indicative of recent GF's between us and them in the SG Ball and Holden Cup where Penrith got a huge early lead but we clawed back and beat them by 1 or 2 points at the death. Butcher, Faumasili, Manu, Sitili and our former prize centre all experienced this.

I'd also put an end to the SBW experiment.

Agree. We didn’t lose cause of Flanno.

Blame the loss on our forwards. Our starting props were no good last night.

The turning point was the moment Robbo took Crichton off and weakened an already vulnerable edge ( Flanagan)

Stili isn’t good enough to defend with Flanagan

We won’t have Kilau to worry about next week, but Robbo will be aware of the Achilles heal in our defence

Reasons we are falling behind in my opinion are
        multiple.

        1. poor discipline
        2. injuries
        3. ref bias
        4. Players getting old
        5. too much resting of players resulting in lack of match fitness, loss of combinations.

In light of these points, it is exceptional to have even made the top four in a COVID year.

My thoughts on Flanno is that he doesn’t seem to compliment Keary at the moment.
He does not seem to be posing much of an individual threat, therefore making our attack a bit more predictable. Opposition sides know he is just going to pass and not run.
But his goal kicking and support play has been great.

I don’t have the answers so will just have to TiT!!

I like Flanno , he has had some good games.
            But ....
            He offers zero in attack.
            He missed a crucial conversion.
            His defence is average.

If Lam didn't get injured I doubt he would have played first grade for us again this year.
I think Trent will stick with him now, for better or worse , he's our halfback , we just got to get him to run at the line , show us a step or something.

Ask yourself if the result would have been different last night if Cronk had played instead of Flanagan, the rest of the team unchanged. We would have had order and direction and our attack would have relied on strategy, not just wishful thinking. Flanagan is not of first grade standard, and he is the main reason that we lost.

This is the young enthusiastic 15 games winning team who were at full strength AT HOME, and yeah when they have the ball, they’re bloody awesome and dangerous... but take the ball away and they lose all of their arrogance. Imagine if you add a few injuries and take away their home advantage?

I don’t get why we make mistakes for example those offloads by Toupo in the second which ended in being their last try. He continued doing those offloads and it’s like no one was even aware it was coming. What’s with that?

Now with Jared. Love the big guy but he’s going back to his bad ways. In the first ten i think he nearly gave away 2 six again and penalty and then he gave that penalty that went on report and ended in their second try i believe. Yes we need a hard tackler like him but we also need him to calm down like TKO does.

Flanno did ok. He does get a lot of traffic his way on purpose but putting him with weak defenders doesn’t help him.

The try scored by the riff where Luai is heading to their left and then puts Chricton through was more Sitilis fault than Flanno cause Sitili gave up chasing Luai by sticking with Kikau thus leaving a huge gap for their Chricton to go through.

With all their advantages, they only won by ONE point. Their young arrogant squad could not keep up the full 80 mins. They nearly faulted under the pressure of the first finals game at home... imagine the level of pressure they would have in a GF? Will they beat us (or the storm) at ANZ when we are at full strength? Fark No!

Bit hard on the kid, Cronk was a multi premiership winning, State Of Origin and Australian halfback Cronk would be better than just about every other half in the NRL. Flanno has only 15 first grade games.

flanno missed one he should have got but he put one over from the side line and outkicked cleary. dropping him for a bloke who didn't demand to be picked from the game v souths last week would be a gamble.

Thus Cronk has set the standard for what I want from the number 7. Radley debuted in first grade on fire, and continued improving. Collins only had a few rank games before he became a reliable and strong player... and so on and so on, but our glorious Flanagan is just a wet lettuce leaf that can mostly just kick well. I have so much wanted him to bloom, but the harvest season is just around the corner, and he still remains nothing but a stunted seed. It is in my opinion that he is simply a failed experiment/gap filler. Would love to be proven wrong, though there is more chance that when I wake up tomorrow the ageing process has been reversed. Nil.

ridiculous post - look at the stats the halves average runs were 3 metres - it was not a game for halves to run - Chooks have scored the most tries so obviously the attack is okay and scored 5 tries last night so he must be doing something attack wise

Chooks have had a few next big things who all left the club in the end - Joey Williams/ Jamie Soward/ Sean O'Sullivan so one should be very cautious of saying a player is this when they haven't played NRL or played any footy this season -

No good dropping Flanno now. we have no one better and certainly no better kicker . Agree hes not up to top quality NRL level but hes better than whats available at most clubs. He needs to run more that's for certain but if we had Lam there last night who I am a fan off , how many conversions would we have got . I do agree but sometimes this resting players doesn't pay off or maybe its just this year. We have become so used to being the best we are so hard on the team when we get beat , even by 1 Point
