If you go to Twitter and follow Gus, you will read fans saying ‘Gus why do you hate the dogs”, “Gus why don’t you praise the rabbitholes enough?”, “Gus why are you on Manlys case all the time?” It’s on and and on and it comes from fans from all clubs? It’s like they feel the need to have him praise their dysfunctional club just to make them feel good.

That was Newcastle in the semi -they won the comp that year 2001

Don't forget, Gus loves Uncle Nick like a second father.

There is every chance Gus is writing what the leaders at the Chooks want to hear in order to motivate the team.

I've always respected Gus for his knowledge and love of the game. However, he has become very painful. Thankfully I watch/listen to all of the matches on Fox and don't often hear him.

              I wouldn't be surprised if you're right.

Nothing about Friday's result made sense and nor has the subsequent commentary. Four days ago we were premiership favourites with one of the best defensive records in the comp. Now we're easy-beats with a roster of clapped-out has beens? Yet the bookies still have us as being close to favourites and the superstar Vermin as being close to 20/1.

Penrith are good side and with the penalties and six agains flowing freely their way, they'll be hard to beat. But I wouldn't be surprised to see us beat them 20-0.

Seeing as it's been declared by all and sundry that we are no chance this Friday, surely the game becomes less important. Penrith are already past the post after all.

That said, can the NRL please allocate the "better" referees (Klein, Sutton and Cummins) to the other, more important games in which the result is not already decided.

And we can have one of the NRL's inferior refs - like Matt Cecchin?

someone said we haven't had cecchin all year. that's odd.

Maybe he's trying to motivate them for some reason as i suspect he would still want Penrith to win the comp and take some sort of credit for it if it occurs- Dont know about the wear and tear tired and aging team (something i am sure the club going forward will address as players enter the later period of their careers) theory though or easy games keeping them in top 4 contention - One only needs to go back to 2001 when Parramatta were far and away the best team all seasons and looked a shoe in to win the comp - didn't happen though.

not sure Newcastle were a team not expected to beat the Chooks as it was 3 vs 6 up at Newcastle- I dont think the Chooks played that poorly that night - Knights were white hot - i said to a couple of Parra supporters at work that the Knights are your biggest danger and if you play them in the GF they can beat your Parra.- yeh sure put your money on it etc etc

mmm it was an interesting bus trip home as the Bus driver had the Dragons vs Dogs game on and it wasn't good listening as the Dragons (7) were beating the Dogs(2) which if it happened which it did the Chooks would be out ( the old top 8 system - two lowest ranked losers eliminated) - a few Chooks supporters got upset and wanted the Bus Driver to turn the game off - he was going to stop the bus and throw us all off - it calmed down luckily - be a bit tricky to hitchhike home on the F3 one would say

                        I've thought about this also.

Since his reincarnation on social media he has done nothing but praise the Roosters on and off the field. "Great club...great system...".

Now, after a humiliating loss, he is writing the team off.

He may have received a call asking to assist in the motivation.

That’s when Freddy said he hoped dragons beat the dogs so we don’t have to play again in the finals.

i lost a bit of Freddy love after hearing that.

                            I wouldn't worry about Gus.

He's a media dude who is paid to sensationalise everything. Personally didn't watch the 2nd half of the game or listen to Gus but I find he basically just says shyte to bring out the emotions (hint: that's his job).

Doubt he really cares who wins. Pamfers and Roosters both sacked him for under-performance. If anything I reckon he'd be slightly more partial towards us (and could be talking us down intentionally to lull the Riff into a false sense of security). Either way, I doubt anybody from our team heard what Gus had to say, nor do they care.

Dont think the Chooks sacked him he just had enough and walked- the big loss to the Broncs in the PF was the last straw
