  • Robbo is tired and frustrated

Been a long and arduous year to date.. Seems to be taking its toll on Trent!!

    No, I don't think so.

He has been through challenges before, and he well and truly knows what he is doing.

In Robbo we trust. Keep the faith!
    MRR or Rabid

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

Yeah I noticed this in Robbo's press conference. He was so frustrated by Iku's injury as it is our third similar injury in which Robbo therefore has to move and switch around players mid game ultimately creating a detrminetal effect to our combinations. Robbo was furious he keeps on having to switch the team around, but of course we trust in trent!

He wasn't furious....he was just frustrated by the challenges that have been forced upon the entire coaching team. Thats footy! We have had a pretty good run with injuries for the last decade.

I guess the only positive is having the majority of the injured players back over the next 3 weeks...... Toops, Cords,Angus and Keary- maybe Aubo. Its going to be a tough month-sitting just in the top 4 and the teams form hasn't been convincing. Unlike the last couple of years we don't have the momentum coming into the business end of the year- but even if we scrape in the top 8, have our best team on field ( less Radley) & have SBW coming of the bench, i think no team would want to play us.

Interesting times ahead! Im sure the boys will give it everything they got. Cant ask for more than that

that wasn't my take away from the presser at all. as always robbo was calm and in control.

yeah he said losing 3 backs to lower leg injuries was frustrating. fair comment. not the same thing as him needing a break or anything.

i thought maybe robbo wasn't happy with the tackle but then checked himself and didn't want to go down that rabbit hole.

He knows what the problem is, but it's the coaches fault....they do have a voice on the rules panel after all. There's just way too much time before the referee calls held now, most of it has to do with this stupid 1 on 1 strip peel off tactic, referees are hesitant to call held even with 3 tacklers and no forward momentum if there is a struggle for the ball. The 3rd tackler will pin the lower legs (generally from side/behind) and as the player in the possession falls to the ground the entire body of this tackler will fall on the lower legs/feet and trap them. Horsburgh's earlier in the season was shocking.......and totally avoidable. My recommendation is whenever you have 3rd player on your legs from behind, pin the ball to your chest and submit and hope the referee calls held as he's supposed to, save your ankles.

No surprise it was BJ that landed on his ankle. I read between the lines that Robbo thought it was on purpose.

I think saying 'it's frustrating to have a 3rd lower leg issue with an outside back after the whole team's landed on their leg following a tackle [meaning SST has to play 80, Sitili has to play centre and JWH has to play more minutes with an injury he's just recovered from]' from saying 'I am tired and frustrated'.

There are frustrating moments in footy. This is just one... overall he's fine.

Exactly. Robbo made a point of mentioning all three ankle injures were a result of the opposition body weight on the ankle.

I personally think BJ's tackle fits the definition of the Drop Tackle they are supposed to be cracking down on. Third man in dropping his body weight on the legs of someone who is helpless to defend themselves.

Yep he said it well IMO (as usual). He didn't bring the integrity of the game into question, name the player or call it illegal. All he said was 'it's frustrating to lose another outside back to a lower leg injury under these circumstances'. End of story. I couldn't have scripted his off the cuff response any better than that...

If he doesn't call it out nothing will change.

Similar to the Storm's head slamming tactics.

There are some grubby teams who "unintentionally" go out to cause accidental injuries to players.

This is sort of the 2nd generation of it, this is the slide down tackle.....referees simply need to call held much earlier and penalize the tackler if they bring the player in possession to the ground after the call. We must be close to 20 weight on ankle injuries across the comp this season, most avoidable if the rules were actually followed. (the instant forward momentum is lost a player is held according to the rules - apply as written, it's a great rule!)

I agree that it has evolved. Same with the Keary injury which is an evolution of the prowler tackle. The Cordner concussion (and SST vs Storm last year) an evolution of the head slam. The NRL has lost control.

I also agree the answer is to immediately call held, but to also to enforce a slower play the ball so that the defenders have no incentive to go on with the tackle.

Any player found guilty of these types of tackles, where there is intent to injure, should receive lengthy, if not life bans from the game.

I am tired and frustrated, so I can only imagine what’d be like to coach a professional sporting team through these times.
                              ..it’ll be interesting to see
