If we come 3rd then it's the Storm in Brisbane for another epic....More difficult to win in Brisbane I would think. I'd say finish 4th, meet Penrith at Penrith and try and beat them there.
The Riff seem to have a 2016 Cronulla Sharks feel about them a loss is around the corner, hopefully against us if we finish 4th of all the teams in the top 8 Easts, Storm and Raiders and Souths have a significant finals experience advantage over the rest as we all know the officiating completely changes

Souffs will crumble the usual penalties and six agains they rely on to do anything disappears (Latrell out is massive)

Canberra are toilers they’re never out of the contest, rely on questionably tactics, Papalii is world class, Bateman is dangerous when he crabs across field looking for a gap and someone to offload to and Whitehead is always looking for a big shot, Weighton is dangerous whenever he has the ball in hand especially close to the line, powerful runner, but also has a great little kicking game and his defence is as good as any. They won’t be easy to beat.

Melbourne always in the calculations early on when the six agains were being handed out like free sample food in a supermarket they struggled then the inevitable wrestle mania tactics came back in, they have the biggest pack in the Comp no contest and probably the best bench, Bromwich, NAS, Tino, B.Smith, Kaufusi, Welch, Finucane throw in Kami (whatever his name is) and it’s clear what they try to do run through teams.

I think to beat them we need to turn them around and play field position game and often, Freddy loved to kick early and kick deep pin them down rinse and repeat our boys are much more mobile I don’t think we can beat them at the power game.

Throw in Smith and Munster Papenhyuzen it will be a tough ask.

seems like there are 4 teams that can win it - penrith, storm, us and canberra.

we need to win this week to stay in the top 4, although parra without whatsisname could lose another couple before the finals.

if keary is out winning down there won't be a gimme. still, losing is not the end of world. it would mean no week off in the finals but it might mean playing a weak team and then a beaten up team, maybe parra to make the prelim.

The week off is a must, so a top 4 finish is a must IMO. The GF winner generally comes from a team that has had the week off.

Just like the Storm game a few weeks ago, Saturday's game will tell us where we are at and what needs improvement before the finals.

we won in 2002 without a week off. ditto tiges in 2005. it's preferable to get the week off but if we don't get the week off i don't think it automatically disqualifies us.

put it this way, if keary doesn't play this week and canberra win (because the ref has a sense of humour and gives them 6 again every set) but we are competitive and we then win the next 3 with sbw coming into form i'd back us to win from the bottom half of the 8.

also, i'd rather finish 5-8 and win the first week than finish 3-4 and lose the first week.

but sure, we'd rather finish top 4 which means we have to win this weekend and makes it interesting what team robbo picks. sbw would want to be performing pretty well at training to be in our top 17 in his first game back.

Parra have hit the wall and have lost Dylan Brown which leaves everything up to Moses who is suss under pressure.
Panthers have been on fire and the Storm are playing great footy and will be playing up at Suncorp in the finals.
Raiders with papalli up front who bulldozed us last time and Wighton on the left edge have run into form since Bateman returned.
Those 3 teams are the ones we have to get over to get the three peat.
Can't wait for the Raiders game as we owe them for the last game and a win gets us a top 4 double chance berth.

Our biggest competition is Melbourne and Penrith. Anyone that doesn't think Penrith are a threat hasn't been watching much footy.

Agreed -I've been saying this from the beginning of the season.
Tough forwards and one of their pet plays from scrums is to have NAS standing in the centres, and hitting the ball at full tilt.
120kg at pace is really hard to stop.
Their backline is growing in confidence too, and the speed there is turning opposition defences to shreds.
It will need a very aggressive Roosters defensive mindset to get over the top of them.

They are just making up the numbers. Good team = Yes but not a Grand Final winning team not unless the Roosters or Melbourne are both not there.

I would have to disagree there. For sure Storm are a worry but I rate Penrith as the only other contender with Raiders an outside chance. I think Parramatta will slide out of the top 4 and the title race.

Storm also copped more injuries over the weekend. Big Nelson is done and dusted.

Done and dusted? What injury did he pick up? All I can find is a calf injury.

Hardly an injury all season. We would be on top if we had this luxury. Yes they are good but they aren’t a premiership side.

Can’t wait to see the smile wiped off the smug and disloyal Ivan Cleary’s face.

Ah I see Cronk’s bung shoulder still gives him nightmares.

I hope we do win this weekend but I think this year is totally different to other years re top 4 v bottom 4.

For instance this year there are less rounds. This year SOO hasnt worn out the rep players.

Look ok at the Pennies double up teams. 16 free points there. Whilst they think they are travelling well, they have only been playing lesser sides. I know that has to be the case when coming first but look who they have played twice plus when they have played them. Eg Warriors are definitely a better side now than the start of the season. Look at their lack travel.

Bring it on but but regardless of the result this weekend we need to remain positive.
