  • Will SBW be another Mason ?

Are we buying another player past his prime ? are we buying another Willie Mason ? are we buying another show pony ? are we buying another pain in the arse ? are we buying another shoulder charging Moron ? are we buying another player that spends half the season injured ? are we buying a player that if he cant make it ( again ) will sneak back to rugby or go boxing ? are we sure we want this blubbering mumies boy sook ?

I reckon some of the above statements are true , but which ones ??
    The REAL! Spanner, never forgotten.

It's a risk. Our record with troubled children is not too bad:
    Andrew Walker: Success
    Brad Fittler: Success
    Jason Sinclair: Failure
    Willy Mason: Failure
    Todd Carney: Mostly Failure
    Tony Rampling: Success
    Nate Myles: Mostly failure
    Terry Regan: Success
    Michael Crocker: Success
    Brett Mullins: Success
    Brett Finch: Success
    Chris Walker: Failure

    I've probably forgotten a few ...

I'm prepared to give SBW a chance. But I don't expect miracles from him ...

Did we have a Brett Finch that played for us before I was born? Because the Brett Finch I remember (so very fondly...kiss my arse) was probably close to the worst player we've had at the club.

        In my opinion, of course.

And Brett Papworth is a New Zealander...in your opinion too.

I think Finchy was more good than bad for Easts....a whole hearted player who busted a gut for the team at the least.

I realised my error on that too late. I don't edit my mistakes.

I hope you understand I met "Union" not New Zealand.

politis has a history of buying dud ex canterbury players hope he doesnt buy another dud as in sbw.

the only canterbury player i recall in my time of following easts that performed well was george taylforth a gold kicking second rower from the very early seventies.

                        some recent Ex Bulldogs

                        Gavin Lester
                        Braith Anasta
                        Charlie Tonga
                        Nate Myles
                        Mark Omeley
                        Willie Mason
                        Daniel Conn
                        Nick Kouparitsas
                        SBW?

Had discussions at various stages and were pretty close to getting:
Reni Maitua, Roy Asotasi, Willie Tonga

Hasnt been a successful raid on their stocks lol

THURSTON - the jewel in the crown unfortunately missed

                            SBW?
Captain Courageous was the best buy.

To be fair I think that SBW is probably beyond characterisation as an ex-Dog. He's been playing pro Union for half a dozen years now. (Not that we've had better luck with ex-Union recruits...)

And for what it's worth, I think he's one of the most talented footballers on Earth. He's amazing, face it.

I don't see him being as erratic and flight-prone as some do, even in light of him bailing on the Dogs. My only concern is the amount of cap he'll eat. We have some pretty tight forwards in development and they'll shine at other clubs if we let them go.

Basically, the cap has to be blown off completely.

Without a cap Easts would be like the Yankees or the Red Sox.

                              Ka'ching!
