  • Will Cordner go down as our greatest captain

Artie will always be our all time favourite, but Cordner might turn out our best ever captain. He started as a 16-17 y.o. with us and will eventually retire as a Rooster. Has captained us to 2 titles ( won a third with more to come), captained NSW and his country. Inspirational player and captain who says “ do as I do” and not as I say.
I’ve admired what he does for years and I hope that when he retires he has 6 premiership rings and stays involved with the Roosters in some capacity.

I'm like you and Big Artie will always probably be up there.

If we get a 3peat, he can press his claims. I'd also put Robbo at no.3 behind Gibson and Bennett if we get the peat.

Because he isn’t controversial Or outspoken in any way, many other fans call him boring, but the way he plays and competes on field is second to none, I have no doubt we win our opening two matches had he been on the field.

I get what your asking OMR but All our great captains like Artie, Mini, Freddy, and now Cordner and Friend, shouldn't have to be measured on who was the Greatest because they all fulfilled their mission to give joy/happiness to the fans in their respective periods. Artie and the previous captains were in a different era and the challenges were different. Cordner was great on Friday and has been great for many years. he will go down as a great captain and I also want that accolade to go to Friend because he has been part of the last 3 Premierships as well. All captains that have won for us, are great in my opinion!

Yeah other fans find him boring because he doesn't play for them. They wish he was playing for their team

I remember Peter O'Sullivan saying of Cordner when he was very young, "This guy will be the cornerstone of our pack for the next ten years." How right he was. And what great leader he is.

When you put it that way then yes , but Artie will always be a favourite at heart

I used to under rate Boyd a couple of years ago .... thought he was just a hard working average second rower.... in a way there isn’t a lot to his game... but man he is hard as!!! Seems to be getting better and better despite the injuries!
Def a true leader on the pitch and I’d imagine off as well!

not old enough to have watched Artie but i sure have the world of respect for him with everything i have heard and seen of him... i grew up with Freddy as my captain and he will always be the best in my mind.. freddy had an aura about him thaat Cords (as great as he is) doesnt have.. which isnt a knock on him cos very few players do.

for mine captaincy is a hard thing to judge unless you're in the playing group. how do you judge it? how can an outsider judge it? playing performance? not really a comment on his captaincy. success on the field? that's fair enough. how many times he wins the coin toss?

that said, cords would be up there with our best.

I guess the way i judge it is just how the team reacts to his presence on the field.. i remember going to a game in 2003 against the sharks.. we were winning pretty comfortably by 20+ points so Ricky took Freddy from the field early.. almost instantly we started to fall apart and let Cronulla grind there way back into the game.. it was looking so bad that Freddy came back on (never have i seen a player taken off to be wrapped in cotton wool only to be called back onto the field). With Freddy back the team all of a sudden got control of the game again and we went on to win... I remember leaving the SFS thinking "we are in trouble when Freddy retires".

Freddy changed the game and role of the captain in my view. A standout.

Robbo is already in front of Bennett and Gibson - and Bellamy.
