This smells of 2005 when the NRL changed the interpretation of the Surrender Tackle to destroy the defensive dominance of the leading teams. IMO this is an attempt to destroy the Roosters/Storm dominance and bring teams like Souths and Eels into genuine contention.

A team up by 8 or 10 points with 10 or 15 minutes to go will be happy to give teams 20 tackles defending off the try lline with a slowed down ruck and set defensive line. No threat of 2 points, they will be happy to tackle , wind down the clock and wait for a error. Attacking teams won't even have the luxury of kicking backwards for touch 10 or 15 metres to create some space. Good defensive sides will back themselves when there is no scramble. A quick play the ball will be almost impossible close to the line when good teams have a points buffer .

How is this a good idea So you are winning by 2 points in the final minute and if you slow down the ruck you wont be penalised and the other team does not get a chance to level the gameI respect all our moderators here. Past present and even future. Always have done and always will do a wonderful job.

The stupid stripping tactic is a classic. There was literally one game where we played (the Tigers?) and a defending player got pinged because they attempted a group tackle, peeled off to cover a gap and then attempted a strip. Now the game is changed permanently so that you can fukking go in, lock the ball up and get others to peel off while you attempt a strip. All because they jumped in and 'plugged a gap' (an obscure one) without thinking.
IMO rather than endorsing the new tactic, the NRL (who discussed the Storm's proposed tactics during the pre-season) shoulda stood firm and said 'no all this change does is plug that gap... we will penalise you for using it as a gang strip tactic... apologies that you wasted time investing in developing that tactic... that's an example of why the rule exists in the first place!'

Dont like it!!!!!!!!!!! Penalty kick to side line carves off more metres !!!!!!!
Six again does not have a advantage at all other than staying with ball in hand where the penalty is called an the defence has reset (( STOPS THE ATTACKING MOMENTUM))
That being said Roosters will benefit from this since we tend to give away the most penalties!
Now i like it!!!!!!!!

This year seems like it will be a Claytons competition
This years competition the NRL can experiment,
If if does't work they can blame the environment we currently find ourself in.
If it works maybe it only needs a few tweaks to become permanent
Have to agree with Nick on this one, comp should be reset
And I would suggest an Interim Title be up for grabs for this year.
Teams which won points in rounds 1 and 2, can carry them over to 2021 under a 25 round comp.
