This "Stand at the Gate" thing is a Murdoch/Telegraph campaign and apart from the revenue earned (ads for things you can spend money on - see above), they aim to cultivate the kind of patriotism that thinks that it's okay to join in on attacking other people as we did back then and are doing now in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria (air strikes).
Newscorp's hypocrisy is truly staggering - it's a war loving corporate behemoth that's proud to get behind public acceptance of a future where we are one of the biggest exporters of military weapons. They sold you a gig economy minus unions which will deprive a generation of ordinary kids of a future that they might be able to bank on. Rupert heads up an extreme right wing political party - just think about that muslim stuff a while back and the growing current China-phobia. It's our children whom we need to factor into all this.
Apologies in advance to other forum members, but I can't let this pass by without challenge.

The soil at Gallipoli is sacred...to Aussies, Kiwis, and Turks.
What went on there was absolutely barbaric in nature.
    Summer, winter (snow, freezing cold).
The loved ones of people in Australia suffered horribly, and many died there.
Our troops persevered for a long time, tried their best but eventually ( as was always going to happen as the task was impossible from the start) had to retreat.

Luckily, they were able to leave at night without detection.
    Heroes all.

Anniversary cruises to there are optional, people go there by choice.
Attendance at Gallipoli Dawn Services is optional.
    Kokoda tours are optional.
"Stand at the Gate" was optional...started on social media
    I subscribe to the DT.
I like it, lots of things to read...in plain English.
    Buzz, NRL, Miranda Devine etc.
Online access, including ability to read the actual paper as it appears in print in the shops. Actual paper delivered Sat and Sun.
All for $20 a month. I feel I get good value.

Many seem to forget we don't celebrate Anzac Day to remember war , as on old digger just quoted , we celebrate it to remember the peace , for me that sums it up

I'm glad they streamed not just the game but the ceremony beforehand even though it was from 2017 and also the end presentation so it made it less like we didn't have a game to go to this year. Just remember, one day this too shall pass
Great get! Presty wrote my 3 favourite Chisel songs I'd say.

There should be more patriotism in Australia...as the usual suspects are trying to take it away.
Afghanistan...went there with US to get OBL and AQ...to make the sinners pay, and put them out of business.
Rambo 3 showed that was not such a wise decision.
But ANZUS Alliance demanded we go...US attacked 9/11.
Iraq, same deal, Washington runs the West. We went, no combat troops.
Special forces crept around protecting the oil installations so Saddam couldn't blow them up.
Syria...ISIS, M..... rebels. wanting to take over. Christians being cooked alive in bread ovens.
US wanting to get President Assad out of office, fighting with the rebels.
Why? Assad is the protector of the Christians.
          Enter Putin/Russia to protect Assad.
70% of Russians are Orthodox Christian.
          Trump eventually saw the light.

Unions were their own worst enemy.
          That special Inquiry revealed all.

          "That Muslim stuff".
Started in the year 2000 as I see it.
...refer ",M..... Ga... Ra" in Google, read all that in Wikipedia...especially the judges comments.
Came to a head when the young teen lifeguard had his eye socket smashed.
There were "Under new management" videos on YouTube. A non-Australian flag flying everywhere.

What eventually happened didn't surprise me.
          One young man saying:
"Our grandfathers fought for this land so........."
          He later apologised.
Of course it wasn't all M.....s or all people of that 'race'...just some.

You must've been busy working and missed it all.

After WW1 it was basically just allowed to re-arm. "Given back it's guns" in essence.
It was allowed to still exist, still govern itself, still make tanks, war planes, bombs, and have another turn at taking over the world.
            Yes, total lunacy it was.
And as a result look what happened, ...we had to send our men and women to war again because of it.
How old did you say you are? You really need to read some quality reputable history books because your view is not only simplistic but its historically incorrect

RIP Steve. It's been 9 years since he passed now. All my favourites are from Circus Animals: Forever Now, When the War is Over & Bow River, however my most worn out cassette was Twentieth Century as I used to play that in my car when I was the designated driver (all the time as I don't drink as you know) growing up in Warwick driving all my friends back to their farms at night. Flame Trees is a magnificent song too written by Don Walker about the jacaranda trees in another lovely country town, Grafton. They have the Flame Trees Bakery there now. Ben Lee is also performing, another Bondi boy.

I watched The Loudest Voice with Russell Crowe playing Roger Ailes and I must say it was impressive. There was a scene where he threw one of his staff out of his house and it reminded me of how Luke Keary left in the middle of the night from Russell's farm. I can't really stand any news channels much now, maybe SBS now and again. I was really annoyed with the ABC today during the ceremony from Martin Place. It would have been nice just for half an hour if they didn't run those annoying news flashes down the bottom of the screen about the virus related news, NRL news - yes we all know its back on 28th May, American news etc...for 30 mins they could have just focused on the ceremony without the clutter at the bottom of the screen with the same 6 news items.

First thing love the Chisels , not quite as good as Inxs or the oils but close.
But the news channels must agree , Half of what they say is blatant lies and rubbish and I have serious doubts about the other 49% . They all seem to have motives ABC amongst the worst . Unfortunately we don't have a lot of good choices .

On that point though, this is what I find interesting....well heartwarming really.

ALL of the networks have today championed the whole concept of Anzac Day and what it means to Australia. It's been a mass outpouring of bipartisan respect and camaraderie.

And that's got to be a good (and very rare) thing.

Fox News is "fair and balanced."
As fair and balanced as those on the other side at least.

George W, regime change, WMDs , Powell, Lynndie, Abu Ghraib, I '.lived,' them all.

I listened to the Oils today too and have many INXS tracks, plus Michael's solo stuff. I put the Max Q cd on eBay early on a Sunday morning and within 20 mins had one enquiry and before I could even respond to the message, had sold it! I go past the restaurant at Edgecliff normally on my way to work where he had his last meal with his Dad and there is a sketch of him in a glass case outside put there by the owner. Before we started working from home, one day the bus went into the lane close enough for me to read it and there was a poignant message calling Michael the lost boy of INXS. His ashes were scattered at Rose Bay and his music often comes up when I'm on the ferry. So yes music is my choice over news. It's a fine line between needing to be kept informed of what we need to know and weeding through all the propaganda and hysteria.

And I actually loved Australian Crawl above them all.....gotta go put the telly on now as James Reyne is performing too in the concert..my TV is not used to being set to Channel 9..last time was grand final day..

Good night everybody and enjoy the rest of Anzac Day..lest we forget.
