The soil at Gallipoli is sacred...to Aussies, Kiwis, and Turks.
What went on there was absolutely barbaric in nature.
Summer, winter (snow, freezing cold).
The loved ones of people in Australia suffered horribly, and many died there.
Our troops persevered for a long time, tried their best but eventually ( as was always going to happen as the task was impossible from the start) had to retreat.
Luckily, they were able to leave at night without detection.
Heroes all.
Anniversary cruises to there are optional, people go there by choice.
Attendance at Gallipoli Dawn Services is optional.
Kokoda tours are optional.
"Stand at the Gate" was optional...started on social media
I subscribe to the DT.
I like it, lots of things to read...in plain English.
Buzz, NRL, Miranda Devine etc.
Online access, including ability to read the actual paper as it appears in print in the shops. Actual paper delivered Sat and Sun.
All for $20 a month. I feel I get good value.
