I think he is more than happy not having to play footy. He clearly doesn’t enjoy it. Loves the benefits but not the work.

But if I was on $110,000 a 80% wouldn't be enough to live off.

Maybe pay each player the same, from memory the salary cap is $10,000,000, if you pay every player the minimum $110,000 that be $3,300,000 for the top 30 players which is close to a 65% cut of the cap.
The big dollar stars will just have to take a bigger cut for a year. Over their career they will still do better than the average person earns in 25 years.
        Amen.

If you’re an NRL player where else can you go right now?? Not a lot of bargaining power

No doubt the health and economic dangers that this virus present need to be given priority, but we are going to get through this and we need to make sure that the things we love about Australia survive as well.

The players will realise that the survival of the game is paramount and I'm sure they'll be sensible but they shouldn't sell themselves short so that administrators etc benefit.
Agreed. Also, NRL players aren't like (for example) NBA or EPL athletes. The max they'll be on is $1 million.

Minimum wage is $105,000 and development players get $75,000. That's not big money for Sydney... it's very much 'real world' salaries and a lot of NRL players woulda taken lower salaries outta loyalty to clubs (or for development purposes). Whereas, reserve-grade players for NBA/EPL would be on multi-million dollar contracts.

NRL players are very much in the 'real world'. I mean sure the average salary is probably ~$300k or so and some are on $800k+. IMO significant numbers of players would be closer to minimum wage though.

Nowhere now...some bargaining power though, as clubs will need players in future or they'll have no clubs.

A wise NRL, and wise clubs, would work out a system of payment for players that is fair.
                Fair and reasonable.
$100billion plus in federal govt stimulus, an extra $200m or less to save the NRL and NRL clubs from extinction is viable.

The government needs to help Australians before they help sport.

I agree. The NRL is pretty far down the list of priorities and rightly so.

They won't be even to bargain for KFC buckets or cheeseburgers when all of this shuts down.

On a more serious note, 100 percent...

                            Indeed.
There's enough money to do both.

Australians are sport...and sport is "Australians."

Tyson Frizell has signed a 3 yr contract with the Knights....$2m.
NRL has refused to register the contract, saying that the salary cap in future will be lower.

And before they help out other nations. I bet Indonesia gets a large chunk of our money through all this.
