  • People can't help what they're born like.
They can help they're grooming, attire, manners, speech etc, but not what they are given at birth.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
    Beauty is only skin deep.
The beauty one should seek is in the soul.
I live in a retirement complex.
    Beauty fades.
Best to choose a beautiful soul.

It was not a travel ban or a ban or cruise ships but an advice not to travel on Cruise ships. The ban on cruise ships departing or landing in Aus did not come into effect until later. Again, these people boarded after that advice and regardless of who let who off, how and when, they still chose to go against the advice of the Aus government. Now look where at the mess now.
Nothing a quick call to Smart Traveller cant fix! First official warning was 11th of March advising people to reconsider the need to travel on cruise liners especially those with underlying health problems. Thats a good 3 days after the Ruby Princess left Sydney. That cant be the fault of the passengers.

The issue is why did the Ruby Princess allow 2700 people to board the boat on the 8th of March knowing that 158 who just disembarked were sick? Those illnesses were logged on the automated online Australian Government Maritime Arrivals Reporting System. At that point no one should have been permitted to disembark or board. Both the Australian Government and the ships hierarchy have failed at this point.

Why were 4 ships even allowed to dock after the 15th of March? We cant blame Gladys for that one- they got special permission from the Australian Border Force. The boat should never have been allowed back-end of story.

Then we had the debacle between NSW Health- who claimed they went through all the correct protocols in assessing the ships risk, and the ABF who said they gave the ok for the ship to disembark with no restriction on the advice of NSW health.

Hence we have the criminal investigations. When governments on the same side of politics call for an investigation into themselves theres 1 of 2 things that happen- they pick a scape goat (NSW health Minister Brad Hazzard looks the obvious choice) or they blame the 3rd party....so the hierarchy on the Ruby Princess will be the total villains.

No arguments from me except I am certain the call for advice in travel on cruise ships was made earlier. Regardless, anyone with some common sense should have seriously reconsidered the need to take a cruise at that time considering what had transpired only weeks earlier with other cruise liners around the world. It was inevitable and has proven to be a poor decision by those who took the cruise.

Whats your thoughts on the Greg Mortimer cruise ship currently off the bottom of Ururguay? Do you think its fair for the people of that ship to be getting government assistance with travel costs after they ignored official travel advice? Yours and my tax dollars to assist those who went against that advice while the country is trying to cover the costs of keeping people employed right now. Doesn't seem right does it?

        • The finances can be sorted out later...we can't leave out citizens stranded.
          ...this time.
After this pandemic is over, our govt should be telling the nation that anyone who leaves our shores in future does so at their own peril.

Also, rebuilding homes in the middle of the bush where they were burnt down in the recent fires should be banned, unless the homes are made fireproof.
Millions of trees around fire ravaged towns/villages should be bulldozed to make very wide fire breaks...The trees sold for firewood.
The ways Australia operates from now on must be changed.
Fleets of 747-400 water bombing planes must be bought and put on standby to extinguish bushfires 5 minutes after they start.

So the family of four who cant afford to pay their mortgage or pay their electricity/gas bills for the coming winter should be left to fend for themselves while we have a bunch of self entitled holidaymakers complain that they have to pay a little extra to get home after ignoring official travel advice.

Im sorry to sound harsh but Im not stupid enough to myself in such a situation and struggle to comprehend the arguments to defend those who are.

Anyone who went on a cruise after seeing what happened to the Diamond Princess in Japan in February had rocks in their head .
Everyone wants to point fingers and blame others when if they used some common sense and accepted responsibility for their own actions would never had set foot on a floating petri dish.
The only reason they went is because they had paid up front and were too tight to forego the cost of the trip , they made the choice to put their wallet before their health.
This virus has reiterated that health is the most important thing in life and those that played Russian roulette with their health by going on a cruise and sadly passing away paid the ultimate price.

Agree , I have a brother in law who went on one in late February after all of us telling him not to , he and his wife's cruise was cut short as it was going to Japan and china and they were turned around and got home safely . Stupid to take such a chance and very lucky to get home at all.

                    Lend them the money.
                    Get them home, this time.
                    This time only.

The family of 4.....banks should be made give mortgage holidays at this time.
                    Made...not asked to.
Family can't pay their energy bills?...there are payment schemes and at this time there are no disconnections by order of the govt?

My thoughts are anyone of the 16,000 who left Australia AFTER the Federal Governments warning not to do so on the 18th March should have to pay for all & any costs incurred - including the quarantine stay (besides those who were included in the special exceptions list). I'd also permanently bar all Souths supporters from returning

I tell all my stupid relatives who love to go to Bali that the Aussie Government has them on a permanent re-consider your need to travel there due to a high chance of a terrorist attack......however the temptation of a cheap holiday is too much to ignore. If we have another Bali bombing how do you think it would be received in Australia?
