Next year is a write off, I accept that. If we get Foran then we're set.

We would be unbeatable. Imagine those guys with Pearce and Friend behind our pack. Wow!
Same, that would be my pick too with no restrictions or Sam Tomkins/Michael Gordon and Carney(2010)

Yet we're stuck with Ricky Ponting.

Watch yourself Jamie Lee Curtis (I think?).

Punter is a saint in my household.

No, I'm not related to him - don't live in Tasmania.

              oooo

Yeah, I'm old enough to remember Max Walker so there's no slavish love of Ponting here.

                  Hughes is a myth.

Gully, point, cover point... Hughes caught in the first over, for naught.

Give Marsh/Khuwaja/Warner a crack at opening. Watson must stay at the top.

This is the Australian XI as it should be.

                    Watson
                    Khawaja
                    Marsh
                    Ferguson
                    Clarke
                    Paine
                    Johnson
                    Starc
                    Bollinger
                    Hauritz
                    Siddle

                      Paine
                      Johnson
                      Starc
                      Bollinger
                      Hauritz
                      Siddle
Johnson isn't worthy of a spot. Siddle is a toiler, but not in the same class as Harris - banging it in for 25+ overs just isn't enough.

There is something good about Copeland, too - post McGrath, we seem to have forgotten that you don't have to bowl 130+ to bamboozle batsmen.

Hauritz has been unlucky, but there's no gain bringing him in now. Lyon performed well, albeit on spin friendly wickets.

                      I'd have:

                      Watson
Warner - categorising him as purely a 20/20 cricketer is another myth, he has the potential to become a stocky Matt Hayden.
                      Marsh
                      Khuwaja
                      Clarke
                      Ferguson
                      Paine
                      Harris
                      Copeland
                      Starc
                      Lyon

I honestly included Hauritz because of State Loyalty. Like with Stuart McGill.

Stuart McGill would have been a walk up start in any other era of the Australia side and he would have played 100+ tests. Warnie was a genetic freak.

Bringing it back to League, it's like Kevin Hastings and Sterling. I am still convinced that Sterling was an average halfback and having Mick Cronin, Steve Ella and Eric Grothe as finishers would make anyone look the goods.
