The reason we didn't re-sign Shack is that we paid overs (as usual) for an Manly NYC bloke who may or may not play regular first grade.
Kouparitsis came cheap because that's all he's worth. Yet another 'impulse buy' who will produce stuff all.
NC
What did we pay for that kid NC??? In fact what does ANY player ACTUALLY earn??? Real $$$$ ammounts, not media guesses.
Regular 1st grade???? Do you call a 27yr old whose played 54 games in his 5th season in 1st grade a regular 1st grader??? Thats Shacks stats. Add to that he didnt play much last season due to injury and we made the semis for the only time in his time in 1st grade.
For the life of me I dont get what everyone sees in Shack. He may be a good bloke, but hes a very average player. He isnt fast, he doesnt have great ball skills and hes not known for his workrate. Sa, Maubs and Soli (all whove played mostly in the centres so far) have outplayed Shack in their few efforts in the backrow so far.
Im a believer in honest toilers, very important in any pack. I just cant see what hes ever delivered. Symonds in a handfull of games has already shown much more promise and he is about 7yrs younger than Shack.
Imadog is right. He walked away with a completed contract..
Thanks TBF, as a result Roosters are probably only paying him minimums as per the NRL guidelines. I think it's around $60k.
Dunno what happened to Koups, at the end of '07 it looked like he was going to step up to the next level. He was an important player for us off the bench. I thought he was going to go ok.
He's a good player, potentially.
There are various theories but a bunch of last year's NRL side have cracked the sads. Some have responded differently to their situation. 3 have stepped up, 1 is in England now, 1 is with you guys and another is likely to rot in park football for the rest of his career if he doesn't pull his head out of his arse.

Mate what was your opinion last season when we bought Mason and Shrek and made the semis for the 1st time since 04???
We let you have Danny Williams afterall, at the time many bagged us for letting him go, whats he up to now???
Im not bagging either club BTW. I respect what you guys have done this season in recruitment. I just hate hindsite and cliches, like "change in culture". Its all waffle IMO.

Firstly, let me say I will vomit the next time someone talks about our new improved family image. It's the old bulldogs definitely, but its the inner steel. It's about circling the wagons and it's us Vs the rest of the world. That's what's behind the whole "family thing".
We've gone back to being a footy club.
Our AGM at the beginning of the year just had that feel about it, our AGM's in the recent past were very business like and corporate. This year's felt right, the club felt good.
Losing Mason and Ogre (he doesn't like Shrek!!! so never call him that to his face) were a setback, less so Ogre because to be honest he has been a spent force for a couple of seasons. He has been a fantastic player and we loved having him. We particularly remember him running over Robbie O to score a try, flattening Bryce Gibbs and his game against the Roosters in Round 13 in 2004 when he was just awesome. However, Ogre had been in first grade since he was 17 and he was weary. I, for one, hate seeing what's happening to him at the moment, he was a warrior for us and don't like the way he appears to be treated.
Our current pack works hard, but there is little menace about them.
Mason, we thought, was our spiritual leader. Little did we know how true that was and little did we know that was actually a bad thing. I won't comment much more on him.
How did we feel about them playing in the semis with you guys? Firstly, we came to believe in karma when Mason got injured. Especially, considering his parting comments to Roy Asotasi when he signed with the Rabbits.
Actually, Braith's departure hurt more. Once again considering his comments about the Roosters after the 2004 GF. We have a bit of a chuckle though every time he raises his arms and his tattoo appears ... I must ask him how he feels that we are changing the logo now ...
Danny Williams is actually going ok, he's playing NSW Cup for the Bulls and playing well. I wouldn't be surprised if he does get run off the NRL bench some time this year. Moore doesn't use all his bench, so some of the bench guys need to go back to NSW Cup to get a decent run and so it gives some of the NSW cup forwards a look in from time to time. He's ok, but yeah he's not the new Artie Beetson ... I think we were having our chain yanked when that was said.
Everyone is really going wow about the Dogs transformation. Yeah, it's been remarkable but the club has just gone back to basics and made the changes where we needed them. I have known Todd for nearly 20 years and he is a good hardworking guy and together with Kevin Moore their traits are coming through. People also forget we had a horror run of injuries last year and people who wouldn't normally play NRL got a chance and unfortunately failed.
Shit happens, it's footy and you take the good with the bad.

Good post mate, however can you enlighten me as to what willie's comments were to Roy and Anasta's about the Roosters?
I support two NRL teams, the Roosters and whoevers playing Souths

The "siege mentality" thing is what made QLD, The Wankos, The Faiders, Penwiff, Melbas, You guys even Us while Gus and pRicky were involved. Its a very powerful motivational ploy, humans respond to primal urges.
Last year Shrek did some great stuff for us. Some of his defence at times was inspiring. I thought The Pillow really benifited from Shrek, as has FPN this year. I dont believe weve seen the end of Shrek. I do believe he needs to strip his frame and really get mobile again. I blame our coaches for the way he looks and the way hes performed.
Mason I still see value in too. I thought he went well last season. His knee recos definatley affected his play this year, and Ive maintained since the day he signed hes a wide running impact backrower, not a workrate hit up merchant. Again I blame our coaches. He left your club cos of $BW, Folkes admitted that when he left. Toad farked Mason over IMO, I dont believe he ever wanted to go and $BW showed his true colors anyway.
Bwaiffs never been a favourite of mine. I do like his passion and commitment, I just dont believe he shows a cool head under pressure. I dont think hes a captain or a 5/8.
Williams is a toiler, nothing more. Will always give 100% just doesnt have much in the size or ability columns. I believe Koupa shows more potential than Williams. That said I wouldnt have bought either player, well maybe for backup I guess.
You guys are the most resilient clubs around. Youre never down for long. You have a plan and go out and implement it positively. Youve done it before and have confidence it will work again. Great attitude IMO.
Yes your injuries last season were many. Ours this season have been too, and like you guys its never mentioned when media commentators go on their little "fact" finding missions. I challenge ANY club to lose their highest paid player, and their best player, for 4 seasons now and recover. Im talking Mini. Add to that blokes like Maubs and Leroy Brown, 2 of our most consistent performers last season. Masons slow (expected) start, Jaubs, Soli etc.
No excuses, just its something no-one seems to acknowlege when they mention teams fortunes. Ive watched plenty of footy and MOST teams that win the comp have few injuries, especially later in the year. MOST teams that make up the numbers have the most injuries usually. Its like the crowd argument. When clubs perform their crowds spike, when they dont people stay home.
