He just gave advanced notice was all, he was fine to continue working at the club until the middle of next season but wasn't going to stay beyond it. It was a weird, weird contract.....sounds like Manly based it around EOFY rather than end of the rugby league season.
It's hard to see Manly going anywhere whilst the current hierarchy remains in place, it just feels like they're going down the path of being a consistently mediocre club like far too many other Sydney clubs.
When Barrett left Penrith, Gould was talking him up as the next super-coach . Was Gould talking crap in order to get rid of him or is he a complete dill of a judge?
Manly are a basket case, no coach could perform under the situation there, but I don't think hassler was the man they needed to get them back on track, he is not a Manly man, I cant believe they never even interviewed Geoff Toovey, that tough little guy bled maroon blood for that club, and should of been given first crack at steading the ship, as he done nothing wrong when he was tossed out.

I suspect it's the latter. I mean this is the same bloke who wants Ivan Cleary back at the club despite him not being good enough first time around!
And the one who wanted Griffin at the Riff and then punted him when the team was in the top 4, because Griffin had the same persona he had when he arrived at the club but it no longer suited Gould. Go figure.
Supporting the RW&B, through good times and bad times.
They appointed another coach during his term and sidelined him (which could make them able to sack him for not doing his core duties if he stays - because somebody else is doing them). No doubt his lawyers can muster up an argument.
Barrett is one of the all time terrible NRL era coaches.
Surely he'll never get another head coaching gig again.
To be fair the facilities were absolute shyte (e.g. lumpy fields giving 1/2 the players knee injuries - not just from his team), they were hampered by salary cap cheating (stupidity/mismanagement kind, not Storm kind), he was given DCE and Hastings as a hospital pass (two loonies who deserve each other) and his replacement didn't exactly win the role through any measurable amount of success with the Bullflogs).
Good luck to him I say. The job was a rude hospital pass and I'm sure he'll get another shot again some time. Assistant to JT with Norths?
I am not a Barrett fan, and yes if he resigned he should have walked, but he tried the double bluff and stayed so Manly still have to pay him for doing nothing. He has shown himself to be immature and weak as a leader, must think he has to get the money because he won't be getting another gig soon.
