  • 2013 vs 2018

    Hey guys,

Congrats on the premiership yesterday, I'm sure you guys are still celebrating on a deserved win.

It might be a little early to compare, but I'm curious as to what you guys think on a couple of things.

    1. What was a better feeling, winning in 2013 or 2018?
    2. Which squad was better?
    3. Which team was better on grand final day?
    4. Your combined 1-17 between the two years.

Im looking forward to see what people say, and enjoy the win!

Still buzzing from last night so probably need to let it sink in for a few days and look at both teams a bit more objectively.

no Mini or SBW last night but so much to like about our current squad and the young talent that really shone throughout 2018 ie Manu , Radley & Latrell.

Cronk and Teddy were huge last night too and really gave our side a great foundation in terms of our spine and our play.

      its effectively
      Cronk v Pearce
      Teddy v Mini
      Keary v Maloney

      tough one one to pick

I reckon 2013 was the better overall squad, but 2018s win had a better feeling, especially after dumping the dominant storm, who were overwhelming favourites to win
        EASTS TO WIN!

          1. Both felt the same, pure elation and ecstasy.

          2. I think the 2013 squad is better, just.

          3. On game day probably the 2018 side. Imagine the first half of 2018 with the second half of 2013. Our defence was definitely better in the 2018 game.

          4. I’ll pick this team on their form in the respective years rather then the player itself.

          1. Teddy
          2. RTS
          3. Latrell
          4. Manu
          5. Fergo
          6. Maloney
          7. Cronk
          8. JWH (2013)
          9. Friend (2013)
          10. Moa
          11. Cordner (2013)
          12. SBW
          13. Radley

          14. Aubusson
          15. SST
          16. Keary
          17. SKD

            1) For me 2013 was the better feeling, I was only 12 when we won it in 2002 so never had the chance to fully appreciate a Grand Final win. Splitting hairs though really...

            2) Still maintain the 2015 side is the best Roosters side I've ever seen. I never felt more confident of winning a premiership that in that year. If Pearce and JWH didn't get ruled out for the season after our Round 24 clash I am sure we would have taken it.

            3) Think the performance of last night was better, took us a while to get going in 2013.

            4) The backs of this side and the forwards of the 2013 side, give or take a couple players here and there.

              1) 2018 is a slightly better feeling because it was against the odds. Winning when your half back is playing without an arm doesn't happen every week. 2002 was probably a better feeling again, as it had been so long since 1975.

              2) I'd probably go for 2018 as the better squad. Mini was magnificent in 2013, but not at his peak, whereas Teddy's a real matchwinner; Cronk's a class above MP.

              3) 2018 team was better on GF day. We couldn't have hidden Cronk if the team hadn't played so well, making only one error in the first half.

              4) Tedesco, RTS, Latrell, Jenko, Fergo, Keary, Cronk; Jared, Jake, SST, Cordner, SBW, Liu; Moa, LOD, Aubo, Radley

But what's your story Sproose Moose? That info's on a need to know basis and we don't need to know? One of your last posts was on the name change from Easts to Sydney and today there's a terrific piece by Malcolm Knox in the SMH on the same theme ...

I was born in 75, so 2002 will always be my fav as its the first one i saw.
2013 we played outstanding footy for a long period and went to the ground thinking we would win.
Last night i was hopeful, thought it would be tight and we were a chance. We were clinical and never game them a look in. Knocking Souffs out then beating those grubs is pretty god damn special.

Hey mate nah I'm just a curious poster. I'm on LU under a different name (like to shake it up) and it's pretty desolate there. I really like the history of RL and looking at different sides over the years, so you can see why I posted the two threads. Also love a good footy discussion.

Thanks for letting me know on the article! I'll have to have a look. Definitely on the Easts train but it'll never happen.

                      Combined Squad:

                      1. Tedesco
                      2. Tupou (2018 version - he was a beast last night. In 2013, while he played well, he was targeted, especially on kick returns).
                      3. Mitchell
                      4. Manu
                      5. Ferguson
                      6. Keary
                      7. Cronk
                      8. JWH (2018 version - he was simply dominant last night).
                      9. Friend (2018 version).
                      10. Moa
                      11. Cordner (2018 version).
                      12. SBW
                      13. Radley

                      14. LOD
                      15. Tetevano
                      16. Aubusson (2018 version)
                      17. Matterson

                      - Cooper Cronk' scapula.

2013 May have been a slightly better squad but no team would have beaten the boys last night, that was the most focused, ruthless and aggressive roosters line-up I've ever seen. A team of cyborgs.

We played much better out of the blocks in 2018 than 2013. This is a much more clinical side and the team work better co-ordinated. Teddy is in peak form and playing well above Mini in 2013. Toups and Fergo better than Toups and RTS in 2013 although RTS did some good things that year but Fergo ran a heap more metres. I think Mitchell would run over Jennings and Manu is far smarter and dangerous than SKD. So the backline of 2018 would take it for me.

Forwards is a tighter go as SBW was simply outstanding and Moa had a great grand final. But overall this pack is so workmanlike and I really think if you matched the two up 2018 would motor over the top of 2013. Much more intense in defence and key players older and wiser. Plus Trent is a better coach now despite his great early success. This grand final was never in doubt. The other one was and we got some very lucky calls from the ref in 2013.

team from 2013 already peaked when we won the Premier. 2018 team has so much potential and to think we won the comp without playing at our best (injured Cronk and out of position players) is scary.

2018 feels better for mine, 2013 was probably a better performing team during the season.

But this 2018 team has beaten 3 heavyweights to win the title and only conceded one try (against the run of play) in 160 mins of footy against the so called best attacking team in the comp and then the team which was expected to dispose of us on the way to sporting immortality. Plus all the drama and subplots about Cronk will he or wont he to be able to take the field and direct 12 spartans taking on the might of the Persian Purple People Eaters...

Plus other subplots like the Slater bs, Latrell being suspended for the pf, no golakicker in the pf, Napa rubbed out for 3 weeks, beating our bogey team who was the other form team in the comp in week one of the finals, etc, etc.....Finding out all the broken bones we played with and ripped biceps. SKD played in 2013 with a broken jaw, all time heroics which deserve widespread praise but we aint Souffs players who get glorified for a split lip.......................back to what I was on about 2018 jussssssst.
