It doesn't matter whether someone has ever played team sport or not to have an opinion. TBH every football forum tears into players out of form so it's not a new phenomenon nor exclusive to the Roosters.

I have played a lot of team sports at a pretty high-level and still play touch at interstae and international masters level. It doesn't mean someone who hasn't played team sport opinion's is less than mine. Life has plenty of other experiences in which you work in a team and learn the dynamics. I could be a complete moron with an idiotic opinion anyway and someone who hasn't played sport could be way more valid.

I don't think Friend's criticism is completely unwarranted, he is not playing well and he is the club captain. By being in that role he will be scrutinised more heavily than a junior or fringe player. I don't think he should be dropped but I think he needs to play less mins.

BTW I defended Mini on here quite often in 2013 as though even his attacking play had slipped, he was the best person to lead the team and his positional play and organizing the defense from behind the line was without peer. He was also an extraordinarily calm and measured player. Jake it seems doesn't have those qualities, perhaps the way he throws himself into his defensive work makes it hard for him to be calm and come up with the ability to make the right decisions at times. Less time on the field ensures he isn't so gassed and having brain explosions. He needs to keep his game simple by that, running more from dummy half when the markers are lazy or not in position and working on improving his service to Cronk, Keary and the forwards. He should only kick from inside our 40m as he has quite a good long kick and has got the odd 40/20 in the past.

I reckon most agree hes well out of form. Its just after 6 rounds at 3-3 calling for the captains head has an all too familiar ring to it.

Interesting to see if he plays himself back into form or if The Coach has to do the deed.

This is what people miss about The Coach IMO. Sometimes its not as simple as sack and replace everyone. It would be unprecedented for a club captain to get rissoled after a few bad outings. It would in all probability ruin any chance of success for the season.

You are given the captaincy for a good reason. It means you have the respect of the players and coaches. You have EARNED that respect by your deeds.

The sack sack sack mentality does IMO indicate posters struggle with grasping what team sport is all about. Sure their opinions are valid but it shows lack of knowledge of what happens behind the scenes IMO.

Day to day mechanics especially in a Pro Sport environment are vastly different to us sitting on our devices getting our moneys worth and mouthing off. I am probably going to offend some but that's just how I see it.

Exactly, exactly.

Some people just miss the point that the coach can't just come in and wield the axe in every given situation. Jake is the captain.

He was made the captain for a reason. He has support amongst the players.

We are not 0-6 or 1-5. We are 3-3 and it's the start of the season.

Reece Robinson got a few chances but he has now gone, BUT he was NOT the captain nor was he a long term player. Jake will be given more time, because he is a long term player and most importantly is the captain - he has built up years of respect within the team and his peers. You can't just sack the captain without other potential negative consequences,

Why do people not factor this in? I get so frustrated with the got to sack them all mentality after a big loss. And even if Robbo did sack 3 or 4, who exactly can he replace them with that will do better?

Couldn't agree more with what you've said - the majority of supporters have no clue as to the day to day mechanics of life at the Chooks. I guarantee that Jake has far more support and respect within the club than he does outside it - and that's what is most important to both him, the coach and the team. Because only those within the inner sanctum would understand just how much value Jake brings to the joint and in what form it comes.

While I get frustrated with Jake on occasions, I reckon the Chooks are better off with him in the 17 than not.

Im sure Pearcy was loved by a few too, that's still ringing in our ears as far as the feeling to move Jake on as well.

Seems like a lot of eggshells holding back the coach from doing what's best for the team as a whole, whilst dumping friend or outright sacking him is a bit ordinary no matter what the media might do with it.

Or what they are already talking about anyway.

His captaincy still stems from an outdated decision imo, wether to blame the schintz for some of that well.......

The players may love him agutsa, so give him the jack Gibson medal, but that C next to his name is magnifying the bad press atm, as well as him perhaps thinking he's too big for his boots in decision making when he should leave it to the dude who inadvertently forced out another player who some were willing to defend.

How would it be different if his contract was up this year, I'm all for supporting my chooks but everything has a shelf life. He needs to get back to what he does best, and that may force him to eat some humble pie as far as Cronkite is concerned.

What's best for the team I guess, pearcey, Guerra at the knights, moa in England, Mini works for lexus now.

Ya can't keep them all, but I hope he fires up soon, reminds me of the beginning of 2013 when the team started to scorch, which found SKD lacking. He came good thru the season, so hopefully friend.
