While I agree with you that Keary is definitely a much better bet at 6, if we're being fair on Pearce can anyone actually say they've even seen him as a second receiver. All I keep hearing is he can't run, but it's a hell of a lot tougher making breaks at first receiver when your job within the attacking structure is to play unders and square everyone up to give Keary that space that he takes advantage of so well. Deadset no one on this site seems to give Pearce credit for what he does well in the side. He's in a very thankless position within Robbo's system where he plays first receiver both sides of the ruck.

Yak, as always, excellently explained. I think Cronk's game is very similar, playing a very similar role, so what's the advantage of Cronk, is that he is just a bit better overall?

He had a terrific season.
He seems to gel pretty good with the team and the club.
He has balls and morals.

I had him , liu , Mitchell , Gordon, SST, and Cords ahead of the eventual winner.

I'd be so disappointed if Keary is not at 6 next year, with a new 3 year contract. I love watching him play. That game against the Broncos was probably his best all year. He carved them up and had em tackling each other. Cordner needed to get his studs checked after being put through by Keary for a certain try, and then tripping over his own feet.

Pearce's decision will have a huge impact on the side. It will go a long way to deciding the futures 0f Friend, Keary, & Radley (as a minimum).. Man I'm pissed we even have to consider life without Keary at 6, especially after the BBQ Maloney catastrophe.

I must be missing something in all this as I think the solution is clear.

Keary is not a super sub he is a running 5/8; smaller and faster style of player that plays what is in front of him.
Cronk is a great organising half that has a great kicking game.
Pearce, not a small half, generally a good tackler and tough. Has a great passing skills.
Friend tough and tackles and tries 100%. Does too much work which make his play direction questionable at the back end of games. So,

Cronk to half
Keary to 5/8
Friend to Hooker and off after 30 min
Pearce to bench on at 30 min to hook
55-60min mark JAke back on to hook and Pearce to the pack or visa versa.

That is what is best for the team and if Pearce puts himself before the team well, then the solution is simple as introducing him to a door. Yes Mitch, it may taste like bean sprouts but just swallow it and you will be in a better place in 2 years. It may ever give you another chance at SOO as a super sub because God know you aint going to get another go a half.
