The club can't make every decision based on how it may pan out years down the track. (Pearce is gonna remain the best example of the floors in that philosophy).
If Cronk is still capable of playing to a first grade standard, we'd be stupid to not grab him for two years.

I'm not saying I believe all this speculation but I have always thought the only scenario which makes sense around signing Cronk is one where Pearce is let go to accomodate him.
I also don't agree with this strategy if it is in fact the club's plan to get Cronk. I think we need forwards not a new halfback.

At the start of this season, most concurred that our forward pack was our strength.
Thers is a hell of a lot more going on in this fast-tracked version of league in the first 20 mins that negates the forwards.
          It's my main bug bare.

The precious half always has the pigs to blame.??

This conforms to and confirms what I have been told by a friend who has knowledge of Roosters inner workings. He said Keary and Friend were staying put. Pearce was for the chop for the failure to reach the Grand Final. Two grand final appearances in 10 years for one win (due to 20 minutes of Sonny Bill magic and one freak try from Jenko) was just not good enough.

I love Pearce. But if after 10 years.... you’’re still unable to put up a spiral bomb or consistently attain repeat sets when we are in the oppositions 10.... then eventually you can’t blame the powers that be..., starting to question the time and investment that has been afforded to out favourite son.... and need to look beyond. Bring on Cronk and generation next.

The man has a lot of positives.
                Damn straight.
Maybe he has been here too long.?

Every bastard gives me advice that comes across like " dont dwell on the past, ... life is short"...........

And. we are just talking sport.
Pearce has been treated so well by our club.
                Bloody well.

I am disgusted if what I heard is from the horses mouith kinda stuff.................but , fair dickum.

                Pearce is nothing.
                NOTHING.

When you consider history in our colours,

                What does the prik want?

We’re going to be scary next year.

Yes the front row can be categorised as you say RR2 as top tier however my thoughts on the individuals are,

Jake our veteran hooker, who I respect immensely, is coming up to 9 or 10 years career with us. The Herculean efforts every week with possible coach restraints and that serious lung injury at times has impacted on his personal performance and the team in either big or small games, so I think with Tedesco coming and likelyhood of Cronk(2yrs) his use by date is very close regardless of the 2 mentioned. I have always been a JF fan and for me it was Jake that really revved us up late in the 2013gf, many have failed to acknowledge that.

JWH - I love it when he is on. Preferred him when slimmer, faster and mobile. 2017 a difficult one due to his knee recovery however I find him inconsistent in his go forward and intimidation factor. As a leader and one of the remaining 5 from 2013 GF team his use by date also nearing. A player who has struggled with basic discipline which has cost the team many times. The penalty he gave away against the Cows right in front of the goal posts to break the score unforgiveable. I have lost all respect for him. No leadership or brains via his non team plays and a too costly high risk prop with a use by date confirmed at the maximum level in game that was up taking for a grand final berth.

Napa - a bench player at best. He made his intro as one and since that time I haven’t seen him improve leaps and bounds especially considering he was/ is playing with name players throughout. I understand rule changes has impacted on his style of game however as an attacking run on prop most times totally ineffective. Takes the ball so shallow with no consideration for his lack of speed and oftenly is cleaned up on his 3rd stride. For the life of me I just didnt get the 4yr sign on last Christmas - his performances didn’t warrant it. I suspect he is one of those players that feels too comfortable at the club due to his love of it yet could be more determined/ committed in game time. He and his manager showed more determination during the lengthy contract negotiations!
The game is faster now whilst our prop combo gets slower and slower.

Many have said our momentum drops off when we rotate our props - it shouldnt as we all know but on observation I hold 2 of the 5 gf team responsible - the leaders and playmakers, Pearce and Friend have played enough games individually and as team mates to not let it happen.

Cronk WILL straighten out Napa like in origin. They say that halves need the forwards to get over the advantage line. I also say that the forwards need good lines to run into to get them through. Hospital passes won't help them either. Cronks years of organising MEL & QLD will sure give our forwards better options in attack. JWH & Napa and rest have gone stail with the work that they continually have to do with passes which just sends them straight into the firing line with little option than to try and crash through a wall. I can foresee the props & backrowers making more breaks not seen since the SBW days...The mongrel will be back!

Hi Roc - thanks for your valid comments. Out of courtesy this is my second response/ reply to you. The initial not uploaded likely went into meltdown when there had been so many Cronk threads . Should Cronk be our half I would like to see him straighten our attack of the current props and the JWH and Napa subs. It appears to me that with Tedesco signing and the opportunity of Cronk coming for 2 yrs has maybe caused a change in strategy of rather than waiting for later mentality that sees Tedesco having “ new “ players that make up the spine. Tedesco, Keary,Cronk and hooker being shared. Radley/ Whovever. I was very pleased Radley was introduced to FG in 2017 when in my opinion he single handedly won us the u/20 when he shifted from lock to hooker. The Bronte connection has nothing to do with my high opinion of him. He has a X factor about him as seen in his impressive performances and as far as rookies go he is somewhat under the radar with general opinion in comparison to Butcher who gets all the hype.
Radleys debut and the following game the best rookie performance by a Rooster I have seen in over 40 yrs of following the team. The other just for the record was 5/8 lock Gary Warneke in the 80s.

All valid points Bondi. I think Radleys is also motivated by his eastern suburbs roots as was Ricko. Far too few of them have been successful and VR will feed of that. If Pearce goes then he has his chances by sharing with Friend. If Pearce doesn't go and is asked to go at 9 and friend gone , I'm thinking it might be to appease Pearce and Robbo will try to give him more time and reducing the need to share. That's my opinion of course.

                          From foxsports...

Keary deal not over the line

While most of the focus of Cronk’s signing with the Roosters has been on Mitchell Pearce’s next move, a snag with the club’s extension offer to Luke Keary could be the next plot twist, according to The Australiansenior rugby league reporter Brent Read.

Speaking on NRL 360, Read revealed Keary was underwhelmed by the money on offer from the club to keep the five-eighth tied at Bondi for a further two years beyond his current contract, which expires at the end of next season.

Keary had an outstanding 2017 but the Roosters’ decision to add Cronk and Tedesco on big deals, while trying to keep their current playmakers, could ultimately cost him a significant pay rise.

According to Read that could potentially change the conversation around Pearce.

“The interesting thing about Keary is they’re (the Roosters) in talks with him about a contract extension and from what I can understand the offer hasn’t been that good,” Read said.

“It’s nowhere near what Luke Keary would expect so maybe, if they can’t reach an agreement with Luke Keary on an extension, maybe it’s Keary who goes and Mitchell Pearce plays five-eighth.”

AND what happens if Keary goes and Pearce stays?

                            That's a real possibility.

Sign Keary......Sign.(Steggles, throw in another 600,000k over 3 years ....)

Geeze I'd hate it if we lost Keary.

BUT, we better get used to long drawn out negotiations ..............and major issues retaining players.......(Pearce + Cronk + Tedesco + Friend + JWH + Cordner ........must be very close to 5 million right there)

I've got a really bad feeling about us Retaining or not Retaining Keary......more to the point.

I reckon he will not sign anything for a long while (if we keep Pearce), and he may find himself in a utility role off the bench.

                              Shyte.

Mitch has a 2 year deal only signed earlier in the year - why should he?
