    That's just one instance.

Being forced to back up on short notice results in one of two things: the club missing their star player, or the star player getting his body beaten to shit twice in the space of 3 or 4 days which increases the risk of injury.

I'd hate him to become another Gallen/Hayne/Myles/Morris/Dugan - players who's career seems to revolve around Origin and not club footy, and who only seem to be fit when the $30K games are coming around.

I'd hate to lose him, and I'm sure he'll be due an upgrade due to his new found status, but he's been unlucky with injuries throughout his career and being NSW captain certainly won't help that.

His reaction after SOO2 says it all. He's a proud blue, and he's proud in the RWB. BUT, he is very very injury prone (prob cause he plays at 120% and has no thoughts for self preservation)..

What was it last year? A torn pec before season start, a foot done in SOO, a torn calf & hammie issues. Also, don't forget he wears a knee brace after games because he has a suspect knee.

I have the same worries about Teddy who has dodgy knees and ankles. Plays at 120% and is injury prone. Most of his training is done in recovery mode.

Yes we have varied opinions but the game now is all about depth, due to these 'ORIGIN FREAKS' caught up in it's history and hype, brutally smashing each other for 3 games a year. Then they back up for their clubs (cause who really pay their wages ???????). If thing stay the way they do, expect more injuries in qty and nature).

DALEY CAPTURED IT THE BEST, THE MOST STUPID BEST. HE SAID HE WAS CONCERNED FOR THE PLAYERS THAT THEY HAD TO PLAY FOR THEIR CLUBS. THAT IS FRIGGIN REDICULOUS. THE CLUBS PAY THEIR WAGES AND TREAT THEIR INJURIES. THE TEAMS & FANS SUFFER WHEN THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE.

Obviously, change is needed and quick. But the money makers don't give a flying fark about the players or teams or fans. Just keep the players coming and going willing to kill themselves and careers for the Stupid Origin Concept.

I don't understand how there is no compensation for clubs who are affected by injuries in test matches and origin, Can a club refuse to let players play like in the city country match? Obviously there is the question of the 30k a game they get for playing an origin, and the club would probably get sued by the player for restraint of trade. If a player takes that risk, and is injured in origin,he should forfeit his club pay until healthy to play again, or the nrl should then compensate the club with salary cap allowances until the player is fit.

Yep, something needs to be done either way.

Cannot leave it as it is.

Cordner didn't get injured from backing up 3-4 days after origin though. So once again I ask the question....how does having Origin on a stand alone weekend stop Cordner from injuring his calf?

That's a great question. IMO, players push the themselves to absolute limit. Most times more than they can handle physically (and mentally, see Cordners emotions were there for all to see after SOO2.)

they also play with injuries, much more than the usual , during origin. They are playing to their absolute limit.

But I agree with you HC that the injury can happen during any game. It's the way Cordner plays. More than 99% all game for 80 mins.

im concerned about the longer term if he plays with the injury in SOO3. He could damage it much more and for much longer.

I reckon he will play SOO3 with the injury. Robbo sees no problem with it ( which I find strange). He was saying how much Boyd deserved to play. Yes but not effing injured, lengthening his time on the side line for the RWB.

Matto better get used to running and defending on that left edge. He also better get used to defending beside Latrell and Keary.

most of all, good luck Boyd. Hopefully that injury will improve to nearly 100 percent.

You're using one example as if that constitutes scientific proof.

My opinion is that a player is more likely to get injured or at the very least burnt out by playing two games within the space of 3-4 days; hence why a lot of star players get rested after an Origin.

Origin should be played on a Saturday night or a Sunday evening. The other games still on the weekend around the origin game, minus the byes. Therefore players playing origin would normally miss 1 game of that weekend and be ready to play the next weekend for the club, unlike now where players are playing bugged, injured or not at all therefore it costs clubs 2 games at least.

I see this pay dispute with Cricket Australia as akin to the Rep scene in League. How many people will be getting up at 3 am to watch Australia play Bangladesh? Cricket is basically the diehard four or five hundred people who turn up at shield games each year, the 'baseball' 20/20 fans and the old guard who watch the Ashes when it's played here.

I've been to the SCG when there's been 30 or 40 people at a shield game. You can tell there's no crowd when you can hear balls being hit from behind the glass in the Bradman lounge. And yet the Australian players say that's why they're arguing for more money.

I'll preface this next bit by saying I've not watch Origin since Roy and H.G. stopped doing their color commentary.

The same applies to league players who get up for the State of Origin. I don't doubt Boyd Cordner's commitment to the Roosters but he's not playing today because he was injured in Origin. But does Colin Love pay his salary? No, John Lee, as CEO of the Roosters, pays his salary.

And yet he's not playing today in accordance with whom pays his salary.

I'm sure that much like if the Australian cricket team was on Shield only payments, if the origin players were on match payments only, they'd change their tune as to what match was important.

Well no one will dispute your opinion regarding who pays the salary but that goes for every sportsmen in team competition of any sport. Part of the attraction of playing team sport, or even individual sports, is representing your country, or in this case your area/state etc... I'm sure the AFL mob would wish they had the opportunity to play internationals every year or even a decent SOO competition. When you play for a club, you'r only representing a section of the population but when you play for your state or country, you're representing your people and it gives them pride. From a psychological perspective, people give it more importance when they do something they love for free, than when they are paid for it.

I have a perfect personal example to illustrate my point. Back before the Olympics were on, I was a redcoat (usher) at the SCG/SFS. When the Olympic organisers were looking for redcoats to work the games, people were asked to volunteer. I was one of them and I, and anyone who applied, was treated like a scab by the other workers. Because it was not unionized and therefore paid big bucks. I didn't get injured or suspended but I was blackballed from a lot of games I used to get first pick of when I got back.

they get paid 30k an origin match not sure why youre bringing up the doing it for free part anyone earning 700k is getting more money per match at origin level than at club level

i am not interested in origin football but it gets mega ratings and interest because there is nothing on a wednesday night to compete with it i would be interested to see the ratings on a saturday night when a wallabies all blacks test is on and some afl

If the club is paying them, play for the club.

I have a perfect fix for Cricket Australia to get loyalty from the players. You want to play IPL instead of a shield game, you don't play for Australia for that year. Make it like the old Australian Cricket Captain game, where you have to earn the right to play as Australia.
