  • The Code was shit.

There are people out there who are still concussed from being hit by a Finchy cut-out ball, that were sitting at the back of the Chook Pen. I'm pretty sure one dude painted his Motor bike helmet red, white & blue, & used to wear it to the games to protect himself from Finch.

He was one of those lucky guys who finds themselves in very good groups of players. He got Freddy, Morley, Ricko & Fitzy with us, then Smith, Slater & Cronk.

Fittler and Wing were a lethal combination, unfortunately Bonnetti retired and we got stuck with Finch (Stickys fav)
      Massive error by the Club!
Indeed. All was needed was to replace Bonetti with another hooker and leave the halves as they were.

His constant missed field goals were behind us losing to Souffs for the first time in something like ten years in 2005. That alone means he should be put in stocks outside the SFS.

Didn't Bonetti only go back to the farm because we signed Finch? We should have kept him and Mullins for another year and we would have gone B2B.

Finch was a very limited player. He shouldn't be faulted for not being better. That falls at the feet of Stuart.

It's great that we've won two comps this century to date but geez we've left at least another 2 at the door.
I'm fairly sure Bonnetti was retiring hence why we chased Finch..
Agree with the blame being on Stuart, major stuff up!

Fait points - Ricky was not known as the halfback killer for nothing.

On Mullos though, we wanted to keep him and he wanted to stay but there was some ridiculous salary cap rule that prevented it - cant remember the exact details,

              • Mullo was amazing at the back end of 2002. Vintage.

Replace Toddy Byrne with Mullins down that left edge and we win that GF.

And in 2004 Sticky should have heeded Goulds advice and not played Hodgo whose head wasn't in it. Flanno should have played at centre.

For a young guy Tommy you have some memory of the 90s and 2000s. Its almost uncanny.

                  • None of the 90s mate; but for old footage I've seen.

I'm 31 and arrived here in August 1999 so from then onwards really.

I remember the early 2000s so well because I was Roosters obsessed as a kid from rnd 1 2000.

My clothes. School stuff. Everything was RWB haha im sure we've all been there. I used to remember the score in every round and all that stuff during the Fittler era. I struggled to adapt to school in Australia so the Roosters kinda became my religion and sole outlet and release.

And I've always been blessed with a good memory so I remember 2000-2004 a lot better than 2009 or even 2011. They were obviously less memorable so maybe I've just blanked them out.

                      • I started following in 87 when I was 10. I used my weekly pocket money to buy Big League and I knew every single player in all 3 grades. Back then I'd take a loss in the under 21s as hard as I'd take a first grade loss. My parents reckon I use to cry after a loss but I can't remember this.
My oldest son is 6 and I think he will be as fanatical as me. Poor kid!

There was a running joke at training back then. When sticky would tell them that Code was gonna practice his field kicks and backline passing the defenders would go sit in the grandstand to catch the ball.... This actually happened... Lol

88 we bought Gary Bridge and were instilled competition favourites to win the comp by all the experts, but failed miserably 😩

I think it was more the signing of Brett Papworth, rather than Bridge that pushed is to favourtism.
