Because we saw the following season just how good Finch was without the great one beside him.

What's not funny is how pathetic Finch was without Fitter. Though at least he uses how poor he was for cheap laughs on various "light comedy" shows.

Yep, I like a guy who is prepared to take the piss out of themselves. Thats Finchy. Self depreciating humour.

Same for the rest of the team not having even made the finals. Any team losing a player like Fittler would struggle.

I have to say I am squarely in the Boogieman's corner here.

Finchy, whilst not the most talented Rooster we've had, always gave his all for the team and often overshadowed his more illustrious team mates in this regard.

            I like him.

The campaigns against him by so called fans were borne in mythology, smacked of McCarthyism or mob mentality and were there to polish egos of otherwise insignificant individuals.

            Yes a disgrace It was.

            • Agreed.

Finch, while limited as a player, always gave his all in a Roosters jersey.

It's unfair to criticise any player that does so.

He's also a genuinely great bloke too so I've never had any ill feelings towards Da Finci.

I remember when he got stuck into those fans at some night game on a post match interview, maybe Leichhardt? where he told them to kiss his butt or something like that... I thought yeah you farking tell em!! The wall went on a FOFF frenzy. And then he kicked that field goal in SOO To win...another Wall frenzy... he was a good bloke who tried his best,

                      Finch can "kiss my ass".

Though in fairness it's not his fault that Stuart turned down Thurston as Freddy's replacement and instead went for Firman and Finch.

                      • I dont mind Finch since he has retired and is in the media but I dont get the love some of you have for him on here.

He.was well remunerated to play for the Roosters. Yes he tried hard but he just didnt aim up for the dollars the Roosters paid him and the importance of his role to the team. In other words he was generally shithouse.

                          It was in Townsville.

                          • We shouldn't have signed him. Wingy running off Freddy was far better.

That decision still hurts me today..
Fittler and Wing were a lethal combination, unfortunately Bonnetti retired and we got stuck with Finch (Stickys fav)
                              Massive error by the Club!

                              • Sticky made a few errors that cost us another Premiership back then. In 03 and 04.

Didn't Bonetti only go back to the farm because we signed Finch? We should have kept him and Mullins for another year and we would have gone B2B.

Finch was a very limited player. He shouldn't be faulted for not being better. That falls at the feet of Stuart.

It's great that we've won two comps this century to date but geez we've left at least another 2 at the door.
