Better to take your medicine, hold the ball and work hard to get out of your own end.

Unfortunately, we don't seem to have a calming presence out there, a senior player, a real leader that can get them together and say "Look, they are coming for us right now. We have to match their intensity. Dig in for the next ten minutes. Hold the line in defence. Give them nothing, control the ball, complete our sets and we will get back on top." Position vacant. Who wants to step up?
Spot on mate. I wrote similar after the GC game. There is no on field leader out there prepared to speak home truths. When the momentum changes your leader has gotta stand up. I don't think Jake is that guy.

Cordner, in a couple of years, will be the Hugh McGahan of the club. I don't mean his Tim Simona style post-playing days behavior, I mean as a gritty, grizzled strong leader.

Maybe JWH should be captain instead of Friend.

Just put him in the second row already and tell him to run straight. Bulldogs kicked to him every set for two reasons - his handling is hopeless and it neutralises his power running game on the first few tackles which is the main thing he brings to the squad these days.
