Harris , on his day was untouchable, although his hands could let him down a bit.
It was a "maloney-like" decision to let him play for the Bears.
He should've been the first Easts player to 200 games.
mark had his tee shirt business at willougby / crows nest and was a telling factor in mark playing with the bears- it impacted on his regular golf playing at wollahra

I think you mean Gibbo took Peard to Parra...

He was never the same after he sustained the injury (broken leg?) that ended his season in 75.

Peard played with St George in 72 and 73 hence Ballesty playing 5/8 in the 72 gf .My mistake re Gibbo taking Peard as he happened to be the St George coach in 70- 71. No doubt some influence and likely Gibbo had a fall out with them leaving Langlands to become captain coach during Peards time at St George.

Nice story Brain - I am not a Crowey boy but also knew Mark back in the day. As you had worked in his T shirt biz you will like to know this fact that Mark played a huge part in a event that has become part of Australian folklore - Mark printed the fabric of " the jacket" worn by Bob Hawke and see when Australia won the Americas Cup. My father made the jacket and did so on the term it be done anonymously however I never knew until after his passing when a famous Australian writer and his old advertising mate wrote to me telling me the story of " the jacket" as they were the instigators thus it longer was it a secret. My dad also knew Mark and the others. Up Easts.

I used to work the door at Studebakers in the Cross. All the footy and cricket teams came there.

Deacon turned up from training one day in his footy shorts.

Obviously I couldn't let him in.

He said, "Do you know who I am?"

I said, "You are Streakin' Steve Deacon and you still can't come in."

I think he was shocked I knew who he was.

I remember her. Tall with dark hair?

I did spend most of my time in the kitchen eating their hot dogs rather than on the door where I should have been.

Fairfax had the broken leg, but I think it was a leg/knee/ankle that ruled Harris out of the 75 decider.
John Rheinberger needed his claim to fame.

Im pretty sure Harris broke his leg too . Did it in the Manly final .In certain he done it early in the second half and played on with it .I can remember agame Harris first time Captained It was against Parra .Parra kicked out on the full at the start of the game and Harris with the penalty elects to kick at goal from the halfway line him self ..He got it but one flag up amd one down so ref didnt give it .....but he kicked clear right out of cumberland oval ..the way it wet looked like it travelled 50m past the posts.

I remember a tall canadian girl with long dark straight hair.

I never got into a blue. I left that for the two roid heads I was working with. if any trouble started I was usually eating a hot dog watching through the porthole window of the kitchen door.
