A backrower thrown onto the wing. Definitely amongst our worst wingers ever. Behind Todd Byrne of course.

Other than that run, Byrne was quite good, I thought.
Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...

Todd Byrne was nowhere near as bad as people make out. He obviously tripped and was not at full stride in the infamous GF incident too if you ask me. Poor guy will never be allowed to forget it.

My memory of the run is very sketchy having chosen many moons ago not to ever watch a replay of it ever again. Wasn't he ankle tapped early in the run and from that never really was able to get into top gear quick enough?

That's fair enough because neither can we.

You know despite skinny having a decent season that year he mostly played center .Goul recommened Stuart not to play hom in the GF as he said he would be the type to cost him pretty much what he said about Chris Walker the following year...defensively...Stuart went against Goulds judgement and the rest as they say is history

If Skinny stepped off his left foot he may have beaten Sattler or stayed in the field of play. It was on the first tackle, I can remember that much. Penrith were shot at that time, we would have probably scored in the next few tackles.

Too true Vasco, there have been sides/Clubs which couldn't win a game when they only lost their 7 and it is well know our missing players.

We were disjointed all over the paddock, players playing out of position, combinations nonexistant , quality of passes lacking , confidence down , continuity unattained.

One thing for sure we will be better this year and a real guage of players efforts and worth will be evident.

These boys are athletes, they have specific skill sets which contribute to whole composition of a Team and they don't like losing or being shown up .

Last year was history , history has shown dont knock champions, they won't stay down for long.

Penrith Dropped the ball and Freddy picked it up and passed it to Byrne- no one went with him and sure one could say he should have come in field and took the tackle- it was drizzling too which made the ground a bit slippery- I seem to recall when we got back to 6 all in the second half (down 6 nil at halftime) and were getting on top we had a chance to score via J Cayless near the try line but he dropped it.- I remember they beat us in the 1st round at SFS and we just got away with them in the second round at Penrith- Had a huge lead and Stuart took Fittler off - had to put him back on when Penrith came roaring back to almost win the game.
