the grand final loss against Penrith.

That loss was a travesty, we were a far superior side than them.
    It was an arsey win.
Having to watch the Sattler replay over and over again.
We were camped in their quarter and couldnt put enough points on.
    Finch, bloody Finch.
Losing a hooker like Bonetti, thats why I value Jake so much.
    barbarian ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

We had two very hard semis...the semi we had with Bulldogs was really a grand final between the two clubs it was physically brutal ( the two clubs were into each other all week between officials coaches players)....I always believed we would flog Penriff in teh GF but Mr Gould and a few other of our officials commented along these lines last week was the real grand final dont think they are up to it ..Gould was definately spot on ...he did advise a few changes to ricky who to play and not to play but Ricky went his way and that was the end result we lost one play changed the end result..on ya Byrne. Gould recommended not to play Byrne but put Hegarty on the wing .Gould also said the following year to Ricky not to play Walker and Hodgo .....he said hodgo head is in space and his form was atrocious leading up to it and Walker would miss tackles in such a big game and hence they did .Who was there when Ricky gave it to Hodgo in his speach at Freddys farewell dinner? Hodgo bolted to the dunny for a cry and a smoke..Id seen him in there .
If Ricky remained more team coach like in 02 we could have jagged those two.
I always believed the 2004 side was one of our best teams ever so brutal and ferocious.

Any loss is painful for me, particularly those against the filthy Vermin!

2004, Freddie's last game, against our arch rivals at the time was gutting. We were terrible too, turning over the ball regularly and not making the most of our chances. Then we had the most obvious double movement try I have ever seen and Mander didn't even send it upstairs. It was so bad that even Greg Hartley admitted it should have been a penalty. Also, my brother is a Dogs supporter and he was merciless.

I was disappointed in 2003 but the conditions didn't suit and Luke Priddis played the game of his life that night. If it had been dry I think we would have won comfortably but it wasn't to be.

Souths in 2012 when they scored 2 tries in the last three minutes was gutting as was the ANZAC Day loss against the Dragons the same year when a similar thing happened.

Ricko was a huge loss for the 2004 GF. He really set the tone in many ways and I recall our record without him being almost as bad as our record minus Freddy.

Both teams saved their worst performance for the biggest match of the year. At 13-6 at half time it was ours. That disgraceful second half; started by the shambolic attempted tackles on Utai for a soft try ruined a legacy. That 2002-2004 team should be remembered amongst the greatest ever. Instead they're almost forgotten

And just on 2003, anyone remember the match out at Penrith? 26nil at half time and to this day the best 40 minutes of footy I've ever seen by the Roosters or any club side. We were miles better than the rest. The weather and our nerves cruelled us.

              With 7. Wing 9. Bonetti

Do we 3 peat? We'll never know and the scars will never truly heal. I wonder if Freddy has gotten over it. He'd already be an Immortal as he should be if we won either one of those GFs I reckon

Until 2013 I thought the 2003 roosters was the best Easts side I could remember. In 2004 we ran out of puff.

How could we ever forget Freddy doing the Rhys Wesser when he scored.

I agree with you on that era by the way. Should have been three in a row. Just like this era.

1987 Semi v Manly at the SCG 10 - 6 I think and the 1997 v Manly again , Sean Garlick cost us that game big time ... Was at both games so they stick in my mind unfortunately

2004 hurt like hell. Took me ages to get over that one man!

Remember when Freddy did the 'David Peachey' in 2002 at Shark Park? Took an intercept and grounded it just before the dead ball line.

What a legend. That was the first of our b2b matches vs the Sharks. We broke them in the first game. Perhaps Freddy broke them mentally with that piss take. That team oozed so much confidence with the great man at the helm.

I hope I live to see a Roosters team led by another playmaking legend like Freddy. Given the way the game is going I'm not sure I'll live to see another 5/8 in the Freddy mould.

I was at the 97 game. 17-16, beaten by the late field goal by Craig Field. Yeah that one hurt to lose such a close one to that horrible Manly side. Full of cheats and thugs. Seeing them lose to Newcastle in the GF almost made up for it though.
