I didn't notice Toops being particularly sloppy. On one occasion I think the ball was clearly stripped by 3 guys and was called a knock-on... but other than that?

He's juat a marked man now. We had about 10 games where nobody had heard of him so we just kicked the ball to his side and he'd score. Since he's played Origin, people know about him. That means less tries for him, but doesn't mean he isn't sitting there as a constant major threat (leading to defenders over-committing to him).

If anything I think his running game has been solid this season! Him and Mitchell have combined well on many occasions.

Edit: but yeah... Burgess played 1 game and scored? Not sure how they expect Rip Taylor (a part-time coach) to teach him how to put forward NRL-grade defence. Mitchell struggled for a month or so in NRL and it was sink or swim... ge's swimming now. You'd think the way to teach an international winger how to play NRL would be to make him play some NRL!!

Thing is though - I don't know what the deal is. Maybe Burgess approached Robbo and said 'I wanna have a gap year in Australia, but I wanna keep fit so I can still play footy... can you hook me up?' Robbo mighta said 'talk to POS... we have our winger pretty well set so you won't get to play a lot of NRL, and we can't pay you a lot of money either for that reason'. He coulda said 'SWEEET! Yeah nah NSW Cup is a similar intensity to the Super League so should be sweet... I'd love to do a bit of training with your boys and develop my defence though'.

DEAL! We get a cheap backup winger, he gets to earn $200k a year while backpacking and playing park footy. It also won't hurt his CV when he returns because he can say 'I played in Australia and trained with Robbo's 1st grade squad that includes Toops, Fergo and SKD'.

I think we assume too much when assuming Burgess actually WANTS tonplay NRL.

Tupou is trying to emulate SKD.

Yeah, yeah, a few weeks ago it was SKD ,now it's Toups.Bottom line is our wingers are fielding kicks off their try line nearly every set. This adds more pressure to kick returns ,pitty our halves can't do the same.

Granted, it's difficult to see inside the head of Toupo but if you could you'd find "sloppy" right at home. A marked man you say, entertainer more like it... stand back and wait for the show stopper. One handed carries on kick returns wearing the RWB and we're 1-6 and the ref should call strip... right ok.

Re Burgess, my understanding is he's taken much less than $200k a year to come to our club with a view to furthering his career. Decency saw him sign a 3 year deal with a view to contributing something back over this time. You are obviously of the opinion he's only on holiday. TBH, if I were in Burgess shoes ATM and given the way the Roosters are insisting on playing a busted winger then I'd be packing my bags if I still couldn't get a start in the side given I thought his first and only NRL appearance was a fair bit more than a pass mark.

We've been minor premiers for the previous 3 years so that would suggest that there hasn't been much reason to drop players in those 3 years.

Toops wasn't great but he wasn't as bad as people are making out. Especially that catch at the end it was a low percentage play and it doesn't matter if he reached out with one or two hands I doubt he would have caught it. He's just the new whipping boy because Guerra has improved the past couple of weeks.

On Burgess, well I think you're back on the drugs again there mate haha. I think he's here to play footy.

He had a shocker last week. But there's not many wingers on a lower salary that are better than him. Those suggesting manu should play at tupous expense are kidding themselves.

Toups just a weido full stop. It's like he should be playing a individual sport as he is very much the loner in the squad
