  • That's a very interesting interview. Why can't we have this kind of intelligent analysis of NRL games? All we get instead are constant reminders that we should be gambling.

Because there are only 2 people I can think of who can hold these types of conversations around our parts and they are Trent and Peter Sterling. The rest like to punch walls, throw chairs and reply with monosyllabic answers. Happy game day victory everybody. The sky may not be falling after all..

      • Anyone else think of a young Craig Wing when Nikorima made the break for SKD's try? He's not a 100m sprinter, but he looks like lightning over 20m.

I apologise your highness but that post was not visible when I responded however I will refrain from attempting to help out fellow fans in the future.

          • Our meters after contact were superb all game lead by Evans, SST and Liu who was particularly good. Napa was smashing everyone running his way and Moa was straight and hard as per. Our ball control and defence were fantastic, did not miss a tackle in the opening 40. We were well prepared and the kids all played very well. I liked the group hug after full time with Hastings, Nikorima and Mitchell, they all seemed very happy and excited. All in all a very impressive outing.

Maubs was very underutilised on the left, but Hoss played out of his skin.

            Chook.

It's actually Your Majesty these days but yes, the site is slow today loading comments because we won a game and lots of people have lots to say, particularly in this thread. As long as everyone can see and view the interview if they so wish, that is the main thing.

              • Well that was bloody great fun. Thank Zeus and Odin for footy!

Despite the opposition being totally outclassed (Joey mentioned that a 10% defecit in terms of quality can result in massive blow-outs - and he was right), I think we did really well. When you consider the new combinations and the travel, plus the small ground and unfamiliar opposition the lads were great.

I'm glad HoJu overcame his early nerves to play a solid hand in the win, and what else can be said for Latrell and Jayden.

The forwards (led by Napa, Kane and Isaac) were really good, and I'm glad Jake didn't overplay his hand (as he tended to do last season). Aidos certainly did have a field day out there - I really hope he has a great year as when he's on, we are tough to beat.

I give Fergie a pass mark, but nothing more. He needs to demand the ball as soon as it leaves the kicker's boot. None of this looking around to see where Toups is, bullshit. Just catch it man.

Presuming SKD is ok to play, I'd like to see Latrell at FB, with Fergo in for Copley, with Toups and Burgess on the flanks. I think that's a matter of when, not if. Even if Toups' form is whack you could bring back Copley and put SKD on the wing for him. Still keep Latrell at FB. Surely we've learned from 2014 not to play your best fullback on the wing.

Thanks to RWB for digging out that clip. Super stuff from the commentator and Trent, too.

                  • Oh yeah - Hastings really needs to work on his long kicking game - an area where Pearce is very strong.

                      • you can see Robbo has learnt a lot from his offseason junkets in the US, the way he was breaking down our structure had a hell of a lot of influence from the way NFL franchises break down their film.

                        • That showed how to use this game properly give some young kids a chance to get confidence against a well below par opposition in a game that doesn't mean anything but is easy to pretend it does.
Both young halves where pretty good, but will have nothing like the room they had today in the big time.
Mitchell surprised me he did far better than I expected. A good change to grow before the big boys target and belt him

I think regardless of how we go this year, there will hopefully be come very enjoyable football played

I was pleasantly surprised by they way Mitchell handled the physical side of the game. Whether or not he is emotionally ready to handle first grade is the great unknown.

                            • Wasn't expecting a great deal like many, but happy with what was produced today at such an early stage of the season. NRL opposition will probably be a lot better, but a good first hit out.....Getting sick of that British commentator! Every time a Super League team plays against Australian teams, he sees a lot of non-existent forward passes in the lead-up to tries!

                              • Man i enjoyed that!

I reckon Mitchell could handle the physical aspect of FB. The kid is a beast.

Niko is a gun with amazing attacking instincts.

Guerra looks ready for a big season. As does Kano.

Too many positives regardless of the sub standard opposition.

                                Pearce/ Niko halves combo anyone?
