Yes unless we've agreed to pay part of his 2016 annual salary just like the Donkeys are paying 100k for Dale Copley. I'd say it's unlikely though as it would've been leaked to the media.

Besides, the Eels front office is too stupid to negotiate.

It was reported that we were contributing to his salary for 2016.

Exactly, is this shit from AAP correct, we are paying MJ to play for Parramatta ?

Jennings, who still has a year left on his present deal with the Bondi club, will have part of his contract paid by the Roosters in the 2016 season.

However, with the Eels then having to pay the full asking price over the following three years, they may need to offload players at the end of this season to ensure they don't breach the salary cap.

Several media reports over the past couple of weeks have said the Roosters made it clear to Parra that they would NOT pay any portion of his 2016 contract. Which is about 700K I believe and the reason we allowed him to go.

This is another reason why i believe Hayne (if NFL falls through) will come to us and not return to Parra. Its been well publicised Parra have big Cap problems. Now they have signed Jennings to a 4 yr deal. And Foran would be taking up a heap of 3rd party.
          They cant afford Hayne.

The plane becomes a free agent if they can't fit him under their cap. So they'll either have to shred a number of players and quickly or say goodbye.

Welcome to the Roosters Mr Hayne. The greatest club on planet Earth.

It is interesting to note that the Eels have employed Schubert to sort out their salary cap debacle and by all reports is doing a great job.

Hayne will b watching with interest who the 49rs pick up at the draft in late April. Chip Kelly has coached college most of his career, perhaps he'd prefer to go with a few college grad running backs. I know as soon is his commitments with Philly were finished he was straight down helping Alabama prepare for the college playoffs. Just perhaps he'd like to pick up their heisman winning RB dereck Henry.Maybe a return in May is not outta the question...

Is money saved this year on Jennings salary able to be added to what the roosters can spend next year so that our salary cap next year say can be say $400,000 higher ? Or is the annual cap fixed and if you don't spend upto the cap, it becomes "lost/unutilized money ? UNLESS the money can be added to next years available salary amount there is nothing to be gained by releasing Jennings. Does anyone know for certain ??

                    • The Eels should be allowed to breach the salary cap cause they're fricken useless.

My understanding is that you can go and front load the salaries of other players, and pay them less in future years (as long as the player agrees).

                        • Just heard the real reason why Jennings left us to go to the Eels. He was sick of working in September.

Maybe they are using it to pay some players more this season because they don't have cap space next season to increase the contract payments?

                            • That doesn't seem likely, as current players are unlikely to sign a new contract next year because they got a marginal top up this year courtesy of Jennings available funds. I think it must have nothing to do with money in that case as you may as well get value from him this year if you are subsidising some of his salary at Parra this year. I would guess his attitude on or off the field, maybe he just wanted out so he could get the 4 year contract on offer from Parra now which may not be on offer next year, or a quid pro quo to Parra of, you get Jennings now and no arguments when we want to sign Hayne....

I dont think we are subsidising any of Jennings contract. And i dont think it was due to one single thing. I dont think we wanted to pay 700K for him for 2016. I dont think we could afford to give him a 4yr contract like Parra have done. We need to clear money for the retention of Cordner and Hastings and Aubbo as reported today. And some have said its due to attitude as well.

Copley may surprise us all. The kid can play. Not in Jennings class but a bit of luck with injuries and a consistent look at FG and we might be very happy. And lets not forget he has never had the coaching of Robbo.
